They are as long as you get actual Egyptian Cotton. The best way to tell if the cotton is really 'Egyptian Cotton' is the pricetag ;) Primo brands like Sferra, Frette, Pratesi, etc. will usually use true Egyptian Cotton in their products, but again, you have to pay for it. There are different grades of Egyptian Cotton as well, and what you really want is extra-long staple one-ply Egyptian Cotton since that is usually the best quality. Giza Cotton is the highest grade of Egyptian Cotton you can get and usually for a 'good' set you'll have to pay at least $1000 for it. Anything less than that is not true Giza Cotton (or it's a shittier version of it and not good quality). If you want really good Egyptian Cotton sheets you'll more than likely be spending at least $500 for a King set, to start. Anything less than that would be considered 'mid-tier' and is, as it is so-named, mid-tier and not anything spectacular. Don't get me wrong, mid-tier is not bad and can be pretty good sheets for the price, but there's something to be said for using high-quality Egyptian Cotton sheets that are crafted by master craftsmen (usually that is sheets made in Italy or Portugal). That's why the best sheet sets you can get are ones that are made in Italy (the best), or Portugal (a close second, but still not as good); US-woven brands sadly don't compare and the loss of the manufacturing base in the US has meant that the art of linens have been mostly lost to time thanks to outsourcing. Italy and Portugal, on the other hand, haven't had that issue and still retain their centuries-long mastery of the craft and it definitely shows. If you get an opportunity to feel some swatches from brands like Sferra or Frette then their Giza Cotton offerings are definitely not to be overlooked (it's absolutely wonderful, especially the sateen offerings). I had the pleasure of feeling Sferra's entire line at my local specialty linen shop via its swatches and I gotta say... their Giza Cotton swatch (and the Milos line, too) were buttery-soft and I can't unfeel them now :( But, from my experience, yes: they're worth it. But you'll be crying buckets of tears from buying really good quality ones since they're so damn expensive. I had to compromise and get Peacock Alley's Soprano sheets since they were the cheapest 'primo' brand/model I could get for the price with decent quality extra-long staple Egyptian Cotton (made in Portugal). I adore them and don't regret it, but if I could have, I'd have gotten Sferra's Giza 45 sateen weave sheets :( Answer from SorcererLeotard on reddit.com

r/Bedding on Reddit: Frustrated trying to find Egyptian cotton bed sheets... help?
May 5, 2024 -

New apartment, new furniture, new king size mattress... next step.. new bed sheets!

I got Viscose from Bamboo from Cariloha because I remember when I had them many years ago, and loved them. This time, I don't care for them as much as I used to. Beautiful, soft, all that good stuff, but would rather have cotton sheets.

I decided on Egyptian cotton. I never tried them before. But after doing some research (on reddit) there isn't real Egyptian cotton unless you're spending a million dollars on Giza 45. Is this true? I see websites like Silk & Snow that claim they are certified 100% Egyptian cotton at very affordable prices. But can that company be trusted? I've become a little frustrated by all of this.

So, can anyone help? What is true about Egyptian cotton? Anyone tried Silk & Snow? Or is there another good place I can buy from? I prefer sateen, and no more than a 600 TC because I prefer the sheets be lighter, more breathable, and softer. My price limit is maybe $300 for a full set.

I appreciate any advice.

So hear me out, here. I know what y'all are going to say they're fake. The company is licensed, and accredited both what they told me and what I was able to find by googling the parent company, they are also tagged as well and each sheet set comes with a COA. I took a chance and bought a set, and they are stupidly soft. Like bar non thee nicest sheets I've ever had. I was able to find the parent company and found out they use single ply long strand Giza cotton. Anyway just wanted to share :)

r/Frugal on Reddit: Best Bed Sheet Material / Fabric? Egyptian Cotton vs Bamboo (Viscose or lyocell), etc...
June 14, 2015 -

What is the best bed sheets material? I know 100% cotton (egyptian or pima preferably) is good, but, bamboo seems to have more advantages (antibacterial, moisture wicking, better for envir., etc)... How does it compare in durability and softness?

I can find only one company making bamboo "lyocell" bed sheets, its in australia and pretty expensive: ettitude 100% bamboo lyocell bed sheets Is it worth the price? does it last much longer than regular bamboo viscose / rayon? or egyptian cotton?

How does eucalyptus / tencel compare in all this? ...

Thx!

Note: Im in canada, so, it gets cold, and also hot sometimes. I like to sleep cool, but not cold.

If you can afford 100% linen, it's the absolute best in terms of feel, breathability and especially for controlling temperature. In the US, a quality set is $175 on super seasonal sale *edit at stores like The Company Store or Cuddledown / $200ish at Costco [website only? possibly discontinued?]. I have a set from the Company Store that is fantastic.

If not, 100% cotton and at least 600 thread count "sateen" style is very soft, breathes well, and will last you a good long time.

Do not buy "cotton rich" or any blends. Do not buy rayon or polyester. As another user mentioned, bamboo is so frequently adulterated/falsely labelled and usually feels so cheap, I won't buy it.

EDIT The Company Store (US) is currently having a sale! Their "Comfort Wash" linen sheets are the ones I have (&love). I think the price is what I paid or slightly more. Use code TGHNOV16 for extra 15% off.

I have a lot of allergies, so I have to wash my sheets once a week in hot water. Cotten and linen sheets (even high thread count of 1100-1200) would start freying/falling apart after 6-9 months, so I would always have to get a new set at least once a year. For Christmas 2012, my parents got me bamboo sheets from Cariloha and they were a god send. I still have the original sheets and will start to rotate through one other set (also from Cariloha) that I received this Christmas. They are also guaranteed (at least for my parents sheet set they were) and will stay soft like butter.

Edit: added link for Cariloha. Even though it's a US product, they will ship internationally, including Canada.

Hello everyone! I’m new here and feeling a bit overwhelmed as I search for the best Egyptian cotton bed sheets available today. With so many brands, thread counts, and different cotton types, I’m a bit lost on how to choose the best one for a truly luxurious, durable, and comfortable bed sheet. I’d love your expert insights on what to consider and any particular recommendations you might have for a first-time buyer like me. From what I understand, Egyptian cotton is known for its high-quality, long fibers, which offer softness and durability—but I’m not sure what brands or specific qualities make the biggest difference.

While searching, I found a detailed post on the Bedroom Supplies website listing some highly-rated Egyptian cotton sheets:

It was a great starting point with lots of options, but I’d love to hear from real people who have tried these or other Egyptian cotton sheets firsthand. Your experiences with comfort, longevity, and value would be invaluable to me.

What are your top choices for Egyptian cotton sheets, and are there any key features I should focus on to ensure I’m getting the most out of my purchase? Any help would be greatly appreciated—thank you in advance!

When choosing Egyptian cotton bed sheets, there are several key factors to consider to ensure you’re getting a luxurious, durable, and comfortable product. Understanding the distinctions between different products will help you make a more informed decision, especially as a first-time buyer. ▮ Key Qualities of Egyptian Cotton Egyptian cotton is renowned for its long fibers, which contribute to its exceptional strength and softness. Longer fibers allow for the production of finer, smoother yarn, which in turn creates a fabric that feels silky against the skin. This also leads to fewer weak spots, resulting in sheets that are not only more durable but also less likely to pill over time. The thread count is another important factor. Thread count refers to the number of threads woven into a square inch of fabric. Generally, sheets with a thread count of 300 to 800 are considered ideal for Egyptian cotton. While a higher thread count can offer a smoother feel, it’s essential to remember that thread count alone doesn’t determine quality—fiber length, weave, and finishing treatments play a significant role. ▮ Weave Type and Feel The weave of the fabric influences how the sheets feel and their longevity. The two most common weaves are sateen and percale. Sateen weaves are made by weaving threads in a way that creates a smooth, glossy surface, resulting in a soft, luxurious feel. Sateen sheets are typically warmer and more suitable for colder climates. On the other hand, percale is woven with a crisper finish, offering a cool, breathable feel, ideal for warmer climates or those who sleep hot. ▮ Durability and Maintenance One of the primary advantages of Egyptian cotton is its durability. The long fibers make the material stronger, meaning it can withstand multiple washes without losing its softness or structural integrity. However, you should also pay attention to how easy the sheets are to care for. While Egyptian cotton generally holds up well, look for sheets that are pre-shrunk or have a higher resistance to fading and pilling. ▮ Important Features to Focus On Thread Count: As mentioned, thread count affects the smoothness of the sheets. However, it's crucial not to be misled by overly high thread counts (e.g., 1,000+), which may indicate the use of thinner, lower-quality threads. A count between 400 and 600 is typically considered ideal for Egyptian cotton. Fabric Finish: A finish like mercerization can enhance the cotton’s sheen, softness, and resistance to wrinkles, improving both the aesthetics and performance of the sheets. Brand Reputation: Look for brands with a strong reputation for quality. Established companies that specialize in luxury bedding often provide better consistency, craftsmanship, and material sourcing. These brands are likely to offer products that hold up better over time. ▮ Choosing the Best Option for You Consider your personal preferences when selecting Egyptian cotton sheets. If you’re looking for a smooth, silky feel, sheets with a sateen weave may be the best choice. For those who prefer a cooler, more breathable sheet, a percale weave would be a better fit. Additionally, think about the climate in which you live—cooler regions may benefit from the added warmth of sateen, while warmer climates might require the crispness and breathability of percale.

I last bought a set of Egyptian Cotton sheets almost a decade ago. They were thick, insanely soft, and very durable. I've been looking for a new set, but all I can find is sateen weave. Sateen is not Egyptian Cotton. It is smooth, but not soft, and it is thinner than the 300 thread count sheets you find at Walmart. Does anyone know of any manufacturers who still make genuine Egyptian Cotton sheets, and not just sateen weave? Please help.

I'm looking for authentic Egyptian cotton sheets, but I'm struggling to find a reliable source. I tried searching on Amazon, but the results seem flooded with questionable listings, and many reviews suggest they aren't genuine.

Does anyone have recommendations for trusted brands or retailers that sell real Egyptian cotton sheets? Preferably with verified long-staple cotton and not just misleading labels.

Would appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Buying sheets should not be this hard! It’s crazy to me how I can order the exact same specs and even the same brand and get something totally different and also how many claim to be Egyptian cotton when they aren’t. I would give anything to just be able to replace exactly what I have. Please don’t recommend Sam’s club or something equally ridiculous. If that’s your idea of what I just posted then our taste and expectations are on a different playing field

Curious what are your guys’ preferred Egyptian cotton sheet sets. I’ve been doing a bit of research for a new set and I’m thinking of sticking between 300-400 tc, for breathability also so it’s not multi woven threads from what I see is common.

Since my boyfriend gets hot easily, I’m thinking possibly percale sheets, but not necessary. Just a sheet that doesn’t get so hot.

Would like to stay under 200$ if possible, but wouldn’t mind seeing best options either.

Long stable. Which is what Supima is, but Supima is also a brand that gives you a no bullshit guarantee. The problem with all of this is that words are cheap and get tossed around loosely, so you don't know exactly what they're selling unless the brand is reliable. They grow junk in Egypt too, and just because it says Egyptian, you don't know with certainty if it's true or just marketing. I don't think the global word police are all that focused. Organic just means they don't spray it with pesticides, and they probably pay someone for a paper of certification. Bottom line is, you can't buy high quality for bargain basement prices, but the inverse is possible and there are people/companies who specialize in that. They're all over amazon and walmart and nobody is policing them. Forget trying to beat the word salad and buy a brand you can trust.

Ultimately, you need to decide on your sheet budget. If you want the best, you'll be shelling out a couple grand to get a premium extra-long staple cotton set. Then you're talking along the lines of Sferra or Frette. If budget is an issue, there are some pretty high quality companies that make a nice percale sheet. They won't last forever, and they won't feel like the creme de la creme. But they'll feel light, airy, and crisp. Good for hot sleepers, who need bedding that breathes. Thomas Lee comes to mind, if you only want white or cream. For brands you can pick up on Amazon with a lot more color options, I'd say California Design Den and Coyuchi's percales are worth looking at. I'm a fan of The Company Store's percale as well - it's pretty soft and very light and probably won't last more than a few years, but that lightness is just what I'm looking for, as I sleep ridiculously hot. I have experience with Quince's linen, not their percale, but I love their linen, especially at their prices, so I'd consider their percale as well if I were going to buy more right now. And LL Bean has a great reputation with their pima cotton percale, but I've been hearing there's been a quality drop off? Good luck figuring out what fits your needs. And your budget.
