r/TrueUnpopularOpinion on Reddit: Elliot Page is exhausting.
June 8, 2023 -

I keep seeing entertainment news about Elliot Page. I strive to be empathetic and open minded, and I respect his struggle as a transitioned man. Transitioning at all, especially in the public eye, requires tremendous strength of character. Having said that, I have and continue to find his bleatings exhausting and frankly, stupid. His privilege as a celebrity should not be used to bemoan his difficulty, but instead to highlight the challenges of the less privileged. He has failed to do so by making such a fuss about his struggle, and become simply tiring. I am not sure if this is a failure in PR, a personal failure of mine in interpreting his caterwauling, or something else. In any case, I find Elliot Page, and all related news, now completely exhausting.

Elliot Page is exhausting.
This is the first time I've heard of Elliot Page in, I dunno, maybe a year? Is it Page who is exhausting or is it entertainment news that are exhausting? It's kinda weird to blame the person when there's a whole machinery compiling stories about him and feeding them to you. Moreover, it's pretty easy not to engage with it at all, I know I haven't struggled to avoid it tbh. More on reddit.com

Elliot Page Says He Regrets Homophobic/Biphobic Joke His Character Makes In 'Juno'

Honestly, as long as the character is called out for it in the story OR said bigotry is treated like an actual FLAW and not just a neutral character trait, it isn’t that bad. But I can understand not being comfortable with it as a queer person and having to actively put down your own gang, even if it is an act.

Some of y’all are being a bit too callous here lol.

Elliot Page's transition feels off to me
I feel like this is more related to the fact that he is a celebrity and therefore he ends up feeling like he needs to make a stand about his beliefs since he's openly trans and always will be. And it just so happens that his beliefs are woke and tucutey like the majority of the LGBT community is nowadays. I don't think that any of this takes away from the fact he's trans. He looks like a normal guy to me... and if a woman did the procedures he did, she would probably be regretting it already by now. He, on the contrary, seems genuinely happy about it. "One night, he tried to knock himself out. Took his knuckles to his face and pounded over and over until bruises formed. For days after, he sat in a lawn chair on the porch, ashamed, his face sore. And then he heard a voice."

"'It was as if something in my brain turned around,” recalls Page, now 36. 'The agonizing voice saying, ‘No, you’re not,’ ‘No, you can’t’ just switched and became very gentle and loving. ‘Oh, maybe I’m trans. Why don’t I explore that?’'"

"Within weeks, he’d scheduled a Zoom consultation with a doctor to discuss top surgery. The procedure was scheduled for November. A month later, he announced to fans on Instagram, who have known him since the release of “Juno” 13 years prior, that his name was Elliot. "

This is really worrying. You shouldn't be able to get surgery scheduled after a few weeks of figuring this shit out. Adults should have the same stricter requirements that minors do, we seriously just let people over 18 do whatever the fuck they want with their bodies and it's wrong.

Edit: I've been banned from this subreddit for a while after calling Blaire White a he, despite people "misgendering" a bunch of other fake trans women who talk about how much they love their penis, so I'm unable to reply to all of the cisgender dregs who are finding this post. Go back to Twitter.

Did anyone who's saying he transitioned because of social contagion or as a response to misogyny read the whole article? It's concerning that someone can access surgery in just a few months, but it's a stretch to assume someone who is quick to transition is transitioning "on a whim." All of the self-hatred he’d been pushing down for years — the discomfort he felt in his body, the anger toward those who’d told him to repress his identity — spilled out. Since age 4, when in the bathroom at his YMCA preschool he tried to pee while standing up. At age 6, asking his mom if he could be a boy. As a kid, he hid out in his room playing with Batman and Robin action figures and Barbies from Happy Meals whose hair he had chopped off. In the imaginary love letters he wrote to a fake girlfriend, signed, “Love, Jason.” These are anecdotes I've seen people in this sub use to prove their own childhood dysphoria. Dysphoria focused on not having the genitals of the opposite sex and expressing a clear and consistent desire to be the other sex. It makes it clear Page had been struggling with dysphoria and had expressed potentially needing to transition but repressed (at others' insistence) for years, before he experienced harassment/assault from men in the entertainment industry. Should he have undergone more evaluation before surgery? Sure. Does that mean he's just a confused lesbian? I can't say definitively because he didn't undergo evaluation, but it's not something I'm going to assume based on his decision to get surgery in a small amount of time.
