Elliot Gould is painful to watch
I love Eliot Gould but he came across this like a parody of his role in the Oceans 11 movies. I don't think the fault lies with him, though. Legal as a character was mostly unnecessary in my view. He provided exposition on Mickey's cases that was either unnecessary or could have been handled differently. His character was poorly written. More on reddit.com

Little Murders. I've read that one being described as a "vicious comedy." Funny and disturbing at the same time. Watch if you want to laugh your butt off but be left feeling a little ill. More on reddit.com

Around the same time he took a more dramatic role, as the boyfriend of the protagonist's mother, in the controversial drama American History X (1998) starring Edward Norton. While first reading the script, he believed the movie was a comedy similar to The Great Dictator, until he read the part where Norton's character curb stomps a black man. In 2001, Gould co-starred in Steven Soderbergh's heist film Ocean's Eleven, a 2001 remake of the classic Rat Pack caper film.

He used to be such a good actor. Now he's just robotic and his over use of the term "kid" regarding Mickey is just painful to watch. Is it just me? It's an enjoyable enough show, but....

Oh completely agree. He’s really painful in this. I’ve not read the books but I suspect his character is really important in those. I honestly think you could cut him entirely from the show and we’d lose nothing asides extremely awkward dialogue.
