June 14, 2023Advice on Exterior paint - between superPaint and Emerald
I like resilience myself. If you properly prep the exterior any of those will work well. So in the end it’s money. I did a house 5 years ago with resilience. Scraped for days. Sanded. Primed. Caulked. Double coated. It looks like it’s been freshly painted to this day. I was shocked when I saw it. I had some inside work for the customers and I asked them. Did you guys paint outside again. Nope she said. That’s your work. That’s partly me but also these paints are dam good when applied properly More on reddit.com

planning to live there for awhile? emerald is certainly worth it. the majority of the cost of a paint job is labor so might as well go with the best you can get. will last longer too which will delay having to pay to repaint More on reddit.com

June 7, 2023Choosing between Sherwin Williams super paint, duration, emerald exterior
I’ve used all three and it’s emerald hands down. The product is thicker bodied but tools well resulting in better coverage, performs well against high heat and wet conditions. I have many projects that were painted well over 5 years that still look fresh today. Superapaint isn’t horrible but not the best. It is a “looser” paint and tools well but doesn’t have a rich full bodied finish like a premium paint will. Do yourself a favor and don’t cheap out on exterior paint or you will be repainting more often than you should. More on reddit.com

June 25, 2025 - According to Sherwin Williams’ fact sheet, Emerald has a coverage of 350-400 square feet per gallon. But in our field experience, this number is much closer to 300 square feet/gallon. That certainly isn’t a poor amount, and like we said still performs better than Superpaint or Duration. However, Aura and Ultralast can easily get 350-400 square feet per gallon of paint.

Today, Sherwin Williams had the 40% off ad, so I thought I would try a gallon of paint from them. They informed me that their premium Emerald® Exterior Acrylic Latex was way better than anything Kelly Moore has to offer.

I’m not a painter by trade but I do quite a bit of painting at my house. I’ve mostly use Behr and have tried all of their products.
For semi gloss white trim paint (interior and exterior), I use Behr premium plus or ultra. It seems to hold up well but often requires 2 coats. For my interior walls, I use Behr marquee. I painted my old dehydrated pee colored walls an off white, and it covered with one coat no problem, and it has great washability. I recently tried Behr dynasty on some often used stools/step stools. I am very impressed. One coat of red paint was all it took to give them an even, durable finish that hasn’t shown any signs of wear for over 8 months.
I’m now painting the exterior of my house. SW had a sale so I figured I’d splurge on the Emerald. While it’s not terrible, it definitely isnt the best paint I’ve ever used. It takes multiple coate, and it shows brush strokes worse than Behr.
I think I will stick with Behr next time.

As a professional painter I actually think Behr premium Plus is a solid 1 coat product In most applications. The fact that you can't cover in 1 when you're regularly repainting your house tells me you're not even diy level good at painting. Don't smear a paint that's vastly superior is workability, coverage and finish when you can't even use the self guided products well
