The last place I worked at ran a pretty big project, 40 of the 70 devs were new grads. the money has dried up and the office now has 1 developer maintaining the project. the office is about one third of the size it was before. all those new grads went on to get better jobs. but new grads arent being hired there anymore. feels like its like that everywhere right now. Im a new grad with a masters, graduated in 2022. I still never found a software engineering role (yes, I’m very unique with this story, right?) I’ve been mostly applying for software engineering roles but I don’t even get answers back anymore. I can’t even tell you when’s the last time I even had an interview. With the recent news on H1B engineers and all that, I’m slowly giving up on my dream of being a software engineer, but I still want to do something in computer science. What roles are in high demand for entry level? I have an interest in cyber security (though I have to get a certificate first) but seems like it may be the same as software engineering roles where there’s basically 0 entry level positions hiring. At this point any money I had is running dry and my crappy customer service job isn’t cutting it anymore so I’d really appreciate if anyone had any recommendations for any CS career paths that maybe be easier for an entry level like me to get into. I’m probably dumb for asking this but figured it’s worth a shot. I just want to have hope again

Before I switched careers to CS, I was a business systems analyst, which essentially means being the liaison between non-technical customers and the developers. A lot of writing requirements and user guides and handholding the customers through stuff. Not the most interesting job in the world but it payed the bills and is still Sortof related to tech.
