If you are going from a role you are an expert at to a new industry that has 0 overlap to your current skillet, you have to expect entry level salary. Entry level salary for data analysts in most places is between the 50-75k For someone like yourself you could be a dynamic person in a sales analytics role. Where you are an expert on the business side but a newbie on the data side. You could command a higher salary for something there. I think if you want to hit the 150-170k mark and you don't live in a high cost of living area, your best bet (imo) would be to get a job in management of a sales analytics team. You bring to the table the business expertise and your team brings the technical side. Once you're in an analytics team you can get experience in analytics and slowly navigate your way to a top paying DS role More on reddit.com

Ask for the budget for the position, then indicate your asking net salary annually as a range. This is a nice trick so the recruiter doesn't realize how large it is off the bat, and if they can't meet the expectation, don't worry-keep the conversation open. End by asking if these expectations can be met, otherwise you can discuss other ways to meet it like sign on bonuses or increased non-taxable allowances, and indicate why (i.e. to support my master's degree pursuance, hard skills, performance in said position) Example: "My ideal asking salary lands at xxx,xxx annually, net. Could you clarify if these can be met by the company for X position? [Let them answer]." IF vague: "No worries. If the asking salary can't be met, I'd be glad to explore other options such as sign-on bonuses or increased allowances [in the form of gas, transpo, internet etc.]. Would that work?"
