r/Dell - New XPS 15 9550 received! Issues/initial impressions detailed.
November 15, 2015 -

XPS 15 9550- i7 256GB FHD 8GB

Keyboard is much better than my XPS 13! The keys are more solid and I don't have an issue with the space bar.

Problem during initial boot: The XPS 15 initially booted to a Dell SupportAssist screen with the error: Hard-drive not installed.

We could not press continue because the track-pad wouldn't respond to touch. A forced power off/cold boot allowed us to use the track-pad to click through the screen. This initial impression at first boot was poor. Windows launched successfully afterwards. Still no cause found.

BSOD: next we browsed the web using edge for 15 minutes. The screen flickered and we were presented with a BSOD - video_scheduler_internal_error. Oh shoot, Windows 10 crashed. After a clean boot we ran win10 updates. BSOD has not recurred after a few hours of use.

Screen - Comparing the FHD screen on the new XPS 15 to my daily driver XPS 13 9343 FHD; The XPS 15's white balance is on the warmer side. The XPS 13's white's were more (to me) neutral. Whites appear to have a slight yellow tinge. Could be subjective due to direct comparison however.

Power button - the button is not slightly recessed as the XPS 13. The button is ever so slightly hitched/raised on the left side of the button. Since it is ever so slightly raised, it is easy to accidentally press the power button, especially if you press near the left side of the button, as it is not completely flush with the surrounding surface. This irked me some.

Sound problem- MaxxAudio was preset to MaxSense. Music was clipping at volumes above 70% and parts of the chassis resonated audibly when listening to Google Play Music. Changing the preset to 'Music' seems to have mitigated the issue ~90%. Perhaps a bad preset from the factory for most people.

Diagnostics issue - Ran a dell diagnostic, because who wouldn't after a initial hard drive error and a BSOD right? The following was immediately received before testing: "Error in dell diagnostics: "ePSA 4302.10 - Warning: Hard Drive - Not installed. Continue Testing?"

We pressed "yes" and the diagnostic completes with the following: "One or more errors were detected." When we press "ok" however, the diagnostics returns to its beginning with no further details.

Yet the computer boots fine despite the above error.

ePSA Build 4304.12 UEFI ROM - What is this error message? | DELL Technologies
September 25, 2017 - I turned on my Inspiron 13-5378 laptop this morning and got a Dell "SupportAssist" screen indicating an error message (ePSA) of "Build 4304.12 UEFI ROM". Below that was a message "Hard Drive Not Intalled!". The mouse was still functional, so I selected the "Continue" button on the bottom right of the screen and the laptop shut off.

r/computers on Reddit: Subject: Dell Precision Tower 3620: Ambient Thermistor Thermal Error (ePSA 4306.12 - Error Code 2000-0314)
November 5, 2024 -

Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with my Dell Precision Tower 3620, and I need some help. Recently, I noticed that my PC fan suddenly started running at full speed, accompanied by a "Temperature Failure" warning. In response, I:

  1. Updated the BIOS to the latest version.

  2. Cleaned the PC, including dust removal.

  3. Reapplied thermal paste to the CPU, as it had dried out.

After these steps, I monitored the temperatures with HWMonitor for about 10 minutes, and all readings appeared normal, maxing out at around 52°C. However, despite these measures, my fan continues to run at full speed, and I still get the "Temperature Failure" warning on every startup.

When I ran the Dell diagnostics, I received the following error:

ePSA Error Code: 2000-0314

Validation Code: 70951

Description: "The (Ambient Thermistor) reading (102°C) exceeds the thermal limit."

I've tried troubleshooting, but the issue persists. I’ve also reset the BIOS to default, yet no change. The thermistor sensor seems to be reading an unusually high ambient temperature, despite HWMonitor showing safe CPU temps.

System Specs:

Dell Precision Tower 3620

Intel i5 6th Gen

365W PSU

Windows 10

Has anyone experienced this issue, or does anyone have suggestions on how to resolve it? Is this likely a faulty thermistor or motherboard issue?
