I'm looking at getting a printer for sublimation. Let me start off by saying I know there are better printers such as Sawgrass, but I am on a tight budget and cannot afford the more expensive options. Both of the Epson options for my budget. I have also searched the sub and couldn't find this particular question.
I tried to search google for a more concrete answer but didnt turn up with much luck. I see a lot about the 2720 but not too much about the 2760. I'm basically looking for what is going to give me the best photo quality and color quality because I'm going to be using it to sublimate some of my wildlife photography.
So the questions are: Which one is better and more recommended? Also, how do these compare with something like the ET 3760? Lastly, are there better options around the same price point I should be looking at?

No reason to spend more than the 2720 unless you’re going to spend substantially more. I don’t think there is a difference from a sublimation printing perspective between 2720 and 2760. Get the 2720. I bought two- one for regular printing and one for sublimation. I’m blown away by the quality for both. The biggest thing is settings- do your research :) it depends on your OS and ink etc, but if you do your research on those particular details and get your settings right, you’ll have a blast. I highly recommend cosmos ink. You don’t need a conversion kit or anything for the 2720.

These are all EcoTank CMYK printers. I believe the print heads in all of these are essentially the same (it being the paper handling/trays, FAX, etc that differentiate the products and increase the price point above the baseline of the 2720). The ET-2720 is like $199, if you can find one in stock. That's about as cheap as it gets (until/unless they have a sale ... probably unlikely with pandemic supply shortages). I have a 2720. Note, max paper width is 8.5". Have to go up to something like the ET-15000 to get 13" width. Sawgrass is expensive--ink, printer, being locked into their software. All of that is expensive in the long run.

Epson Et 2720 converted not printing black ink. Worked fine when I was printing right before but suddenly stopped. Ink chamber is full. Cleaned the print heads. Tried different paper. Still no black.

I have the ET-2760 (I think they're about the same as the 2720) that I converted for sublimation and had the exact same issues you just descibed: random black spots all in a line or just randomly out of nowhere that can only be seen once you sublimate. I had tried everything down to cleaning the nozzle head, alignment, power cleaning and adjusting the paper settings, etc. Originally I was using the A-SUB brand paper of 125G and later found out that these EcoTank printers don't really support printing on cardstock or thick paper. I eventually switched over to using the same A-SUB brand but at 105G, which is a bit more lighter and less thick but still good enough to hold a good amount of ink) and since then have never had the same problems. I also keep the paper settings on plain paper and high quality. Thank you so much for this. I have been pulling my hair out today as I just made the switch from a £30 HP printer to a £200 ET-2720, to find that the more expensive printer could not even handle the most basic of my artworks. Nightmare. I'm trying to find the regular driver now. I am also trying to print on premium white card stock. I find if I select 'plain paper' then the colours are faded and pale, but any of the photo paper options the colours are dark and intense. What paper option did you select? Thanks for your help.
