r/ASRock on Reddit: What does error code 00 and 94 mean in the motherboard when booting up. I have a 9800x3d and a x870e taichi. Happened past few days.
November 25, 2025 -

Day 1: I got the error code stuck at 94 so I decided to power off the pc again, and then turn off the power and then turn it back on, and then power up the machine and it seemed to fix the issue overall of having a blank screen on startup.

Day 2: I was more worried during this day since instead of getting 94 or anything I got 00 and thought my 9800x3d died or was killed but, tried to reset cmos and did nothing. Then I booted up my old pc, got the newest bios of 3.50, and updated my pc, and it seemed to boot up perfectly fine afterwards.

Day 3: Again this morning I got the error code of 94 and luckily not 00 like the previous day. I ended up shutting off my pc again after it was blank, did a reset cmos, and this time it booted up luckily first try without any issues.

Overall I am quite considered over what is happening. I have heard multiple solutions such as;

  1. Go into bios and make sure the pcie slot 1 instead of auto it is on gen 4 or whatever nvme I am using, same with the other pcie slot that is in use.

  2. Try reseating the ram and the gpu to see if that fixes the issue of it happening or unplugging and replunging in the gpu cable as well. But, I heard constantly replugging the 4090 atx 3.0 cable is really bad for it, so I would rather not do that too much.

  3. People have said to clear cmos and luckily this has been helping me so far overall throughout the past few days of booting up the pc.

At first I thought this was a 9800x3d issue and my cpu dying and I am still not sure if that is the case or there is something else entirely wrong with my pc or maybe some corrupted files or if it is just in the bios with the pcie thing being set to automatic. I got no idea what to do and if I should be more concerned or worried about what is happening now. I have had the 9800x3d installed and running since around FEBURARY incase people are curious, before then I had issues with my first x870e taichi board since it came in damaged since the delivery driver just threw it on my porch and luckily the second one came in perfect condition with no scratches etc so that's why it took awhile since the 9800x3d I have is the first batch from November.

I am not going to RMA the cpu yet if so far it is working or if there are other solutions but, I was curious what would be some good things to try out to see if it would fix it. I don't have spare 7000 or 9000 series processors, my old pc is an am4 build so.

EDIT: Before anyone asks, I have a cl 28 6000mhz ram stick 32gb kit from gskill the royal trident series. I have only ever used EXPO and have never done any PBO or undervolting or anything else. I have just used EXPO, since when I build the pc I was scared about the 9800x3d's dying etc.

May 11, 2021 -

I installed another m.2 SSD into my System (Samsung 980 Pro 2TB) and my PC won't post stuck with the Error Code 94. Weirdly I plugged the SSD into an USB-C adapter and it works fine from there. After that I tried cleaning it with Diskpart, Format it to NTFS, GPT Partitioning, Windows tells me it is working fine in the adapter. But as soon as I install it directly into my Motherboard, Error 94.

Specs: CPU: AMD 3900X GPU: 5700XT Motherboard: Aorus Master X570 PSU: 750W Seasonic Titanium

  1. SSD: 970 Evo Plus 1TB

  2. SSD: 980 Pro 2TB

I have not the slightest clue and it drives me mad, please help. I mean, even if it would be formatted wrong, the BIOS should still show up. I even reseated the Graphics Card to another place and interchanged the SSDs themselves in others places. It doesn't make any sense to me, that it works via Adapter and not internally. I couldn't test it on another PC so far sadly.

Important to note: As soon as the new SSD is out, it boots normally from the first.

Whenever I first start my PC, it gets stuck at code 94 and the monitor stays blank. The only way I can solve this, is by restarting my PC after having waited for a while. I searched my trough my PC for damaged files, but couldn't find any. This is annoying since it also happens when I restart my PC for downloading games or softwares.

Impossible PC boot (stucked at q-code 94) | Overclockers UK Forums
April 25, 2022 - If something has to be faulty I just don't hope it hasn't to be cpu or ram since tbh, also in case I would fail to solve by testing ram, nvme and gpu in different configurations; is there any way i could figure out for sure if the cause is the motherboard rather than the cpu or vice versa? ... Since it managed to boot into OS once after the issue first occurred I am more inclined to suspect hardware. Whilst a BIOS corruption is possible, it's not likely to cause pcie issues one day and not the next. Based on the evidence it looks like the GPU enumeration fails and so re-seating the graphics card could be a good idea. ... Voting Conservative. Q code 94 may be the last successful stage and the one following it is the one falling over.

Built my new pc. Cpu is water cooled (GPU is not because it wouldn’t fit the water block. I have a 10900k and a 6900 xt sapphire nitro. I turn it on with the GPU plugged in and it turns on and the GPU fans spin and lights turn on but nothing on screen and 94 code on the MOBO. I take the GPU out and use Integrated and it works fine. Put the GPU back in and nothing... I’ve tried re seating it, using a different slot. All of the 9 yards. Possibly dead GPU? It was brand new, I took it apart to put in water block and it didn’t fit so I put it back together, maybe I messed something up? How do I tell. I’m stumped... let me know thanks guys and gals 👍🏽

r/buildapc on Reddit: RTX 5090 Mobo Code 94 Boot Issue
March 13, 2025 -

Just got my MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC. Installed it. Won't boot. Mobo code 94 pops up. This is supposedly a PCIE issue.

I had no issues with my MSI RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid X before this. I have it still. It ran fine before the swap. I reinstalled it after this issue and it did not pop the 94 code. It only occurs with the 5090.

My first thought was that maybe it didn't like that I had all my NVME SSD slots taken up (total of 3). I tried removing one (the furthest from the CPU), and it still popped 94.

I stopped there and came here to ask for more guidance. Should I remove another SSD? Could that even be the problem? I can't even get to BIOS to do anything.

This is obviously so frustrating after getting something I was so pumped on. I hope it's something simple, but I don't really know what I could have missed.

Rig: 7950X3D MSI MEG X670E Ace Mobo WD Black Gen 4 2 TB NVME Samsung 980 Pro 1TB NVME

Let me know if you need more rig info.

Like I said, worked fine before the GPU swap. Thanks in advance.

Update: I forgot I actually had another 1 TB WD Black NVME in the other slot. I took those 2 out and the code is gone... Too many NVME's. I don't necessarily need them.

Update 2: Narrowed it down to the NVME SSD slot right underneath the GPU slot. I thought that it might share PCIE lanes with the GPU. That was correct. I placed the NVME's in the other slots and it boots fine.

Update 3: Nevermind... Issue came back again. No changes from when it worked. I just restarted the PC. Popped up code 94 again... I've tried multiple things. I even pulled my 3090 Ti from my other rig. Boots fine. Did I get a bad 5090??? I'm so upset over this.

Update 4: After many different tactics, I found a fix that has stuck. I had to change PCIe 1 to Gen 4 instead of Auto in the BIOS. Once I did that, it fully booted. This was after flashing the BIOS, resetting the CMOS battery, etc. with no resolution. Once I switched it from Auto, it finally worked and continues to work after restarts. Hopefully, this helps someone out if they run into the same issue.

Help! My PC Stuck on Code 94 During Boot - Nerdburglars Gaming
June 26, 2025 - From what I’ve found, code 94 on an ASUS ROG motherboard indicates that the board is having trouble detecting a PCIe device. Some things to try: 1. Reseat your GPU and check all connections. 2. Remove any extra PCIe devices that aren’t essential. 3. Make sure your BIOS is up to date.

Seems to boot up fine using onboard video via HDMI, but when I plug in the 4770, it results in a blank screen and gets stuck at code 94: PCI Bus Enumeration.

Whats the cause of this? My video card was working fine in my old build 2 months ago but hasn't been powered on until now.

r/buildapc on Reddit: Asus Dark Hero Q-CODE 94 impossible boot
April 24, 2022 -

Hi guys I have a pretty serious PC problem so I hope some of you can help me. A few days ago during a shutdown Windows hangs on shutdown by switching to a black screen that leads the PC to a loop of blank reboots terminated by a direct shutdown of the PC using the power button. Subsequently, the PC was no longer able to boot, not even reaching the BIOS, the boot phase stopped with the motherboard with q-code 94 corresponding to the "PCI Bus enumeration" phase and the VGA led lit and then the boot retries automatically without ever reaching the BIOS and showing no video signal at all. Last night, two days passed (after trying various cmos, reboots and removal of power to discharge the capacitors) the PC randomly boots and resets a Windows error. Everything works perfectly (tested with cinebench r23, Crystal diskmark and some games) and even turning off and on again no problem of fate. After hours of use, convinced that everything had been resolved, I turn off the PC again and Windows freezes in the same way, bringing the PC back to its previous state. Today I tried for 6-7 hours to overcome this continous boot loop with constant code 94 and no video signal on the screen, but i wasn't able ti solve it and I have no idea how yesterday the PC managed to post. I suspect or a software problem of corruption of the BIOS due in some way to Windows or some hardware problem of the motherboard maybe, even if in my opinion the problem is really illogical and difficult to understand and appeared suddenly. Right now I have tried to remove the battery of the mobo, tried a boot without the nvme with the os, but I have not tried yet to move the video card to other slots or such solutions as the system is cooled by a fairly complex double custom loop which takes time to take apart.

If anyone is able to help me I would be really grateful.

PS: we are talking about a really high-end rig (5950x, Asus dark Hero, 3090, ax1600i) each component cooled with custom loop
