UPDATE: thank you everyone who shared their sizes in different brands—I’m finding the more specific answers from different people the more it helps. I don’t find this repetitive at all so if people can continue to share comparisons between the sizes in popular US shoe brands vs European or luxury brands I think it will help us all!
Original post:
I’m a U.S. women’s 8 in shoes though with some brands that run large or wide 7.5 works. I grew up being told that translates to an EU/IT 39, though when I was younger I couldn’t really afford a lot of European shoe brands plus I shopped in person so I never questioned it.
Lately I’m more interested in shoes from luxury brands and I realized some sizing conversion charts say EU38=US8 and some say EU38.5=US8. I purchased a pair of shoes this year in EU38.5 thinking it was safe and might run a little big, as most retail sites and reviewers said it was “true to size”; they were wearable but they were a little small lengthwise. For reference I have a lot of shoes from a lot of brands but for the broadest example Nike Womens 8 and Men’s 6.5 are a perfect fit for me 99% of the time.
Fashion bloggers tend to exclusively buy shoes from these brands so I assume when they say they’re EU39 in all shoes and they call something true to size, they mean a true EU39 and I still have no idea if they mean it’s a TTS EU39, TTS US9, or TTS US8.5. I do 90% of my shopping online so trying on is a hassle and I’m wondering if you all have some insight and can help me figure this out?
I would’ve imagined I’m not the only person experiencing this but Google hasn’t turned up any hits for anyone discussing this weird discrepancy.
