12 Evergreen Shrubs For Privacy Hedges & Borders
April 21, 2025 - Just Chill™ Double Pink camellia is a flowering evergreen shrub that features romantic layered petals that grace the landscape mid-fall through the winter, a welcome sight amongst spent flowers. The evergreen foliage stays glossy, with new growth appearing deep red even during winter. Mass plant to add a pop of color to your privacy hedge or add as a specimen to a border.

September 22, 2023 -

Looking to make a gravel path from patio to garage door, I will have some form of brick edging but also want to make an evergreen edge of shrubs/ferns/flowers. Garden is south facing and gets decent amount of sunshine. Wondering if you have any recommendations? The plants can’t be taller than 30-40cm as I’d like to see my other border from the living room still (see photo 3).

My current layout is in photo 2 - Area 1: gravel path from patio to garage door Area 2: evergreen edging with pathway lights Area 3: evergreen clematis armandii up the trellis

Box has basically had it in this country now - you'd spend your entire life fighting moths / blight. Without poisoning the ecosystem, it's a losing battle. If you're interested in supporting wildlife, you might try alternating rosemary, lavender and nepeta (catmint) - I'd go for the walker's low variety of nepeta if you want to keep it to 30-40cm. Rosemary is truly evergreen and flowers beautifully in spring, lavender is sort of evergreen, and catmint dies back in the winter, but as a collective it would look reasonable in winter, and would absolutely thrum with pollinators in spring and summer. The rosemary and lavender will need cutting back after flowering to keep it 'neat', if that's the style you prefer. More on reddit.com

Short evergreen shrubs for a border garden
Hahaha, why did someone down vote my question? LOL I see that a lot, just random down votes on questions with no explanation. Anyway, today I made a few purchases (locally) to replace the mondo grass: two Gold Strike juniper (I think) and two Blue Star juniper: https://www.campbellsnursery.com/product/landscapeplants/shrubs-and-roses/juniper-dwarf-golden-creeping-gold-strike/ https://www.2wildpoppies.com/juniperus-squamata-blue-star-juniper-blue-star-3-m.html The yellow juniper doesn't have a tag on it, but I'm pretty sure this is what she said it was when we talked. They'll both take a little bit of occasional pruning which makes them less than ideal, but I hope that the size, color, and texture will make them work well. Thoughts? More on reddit.com

Sago palm aren't ever touched by deer. They are evergreen in the south, will come back after freezing if the roots don't freeze. They 'make babies' you split off with a shovel and replant. GREAT plant!
