This is one of the systems that has simplified my time in a major way. Pretty much any standard task that needs to happen every day, we schedule it. The best example I can think of is taking Charlie out.

10 Examples of simple machines in everyday life
You can find these types of levers everywhere, from nail pullers to simple seesaws in parks. You've probably seen those conveyor belts at the checkout in the supermarket, where you place your products so they reach the cashier. Although it may seem like a modern system, the idea behind this mechanism is very old: it's a moving inclined plane.

Examples of system thinking applied in real life?
I live with a rare, undiagnosed illness that affects immune, endocrine, connective tissue, and vascular systems. When none of the diagnoses explained the whole picture, I started looking at how the systems interacted, not just what was failing, but how one breakdown triggered the next. That shift helped me recognize deeper patterns and formulate a systems-based hypothesis that’s now under review at the NIH Undiagnosed Diseases Network. The working theory involves a rare oligogenic condition shaped by genomic compression. I stopped chasing symptoms and started looking at systemic root causes. More on reddit.com

the minute I plan something, whether it's a meeting, or lunch with a friend, or an oil change, it goes into my calendar. I use a physical day timer calendar from personal preference. If I'm somewhere where I can't physically access my calendar (at the gym or out for a walk) I text myself a reminder and as soon as I'm home I write it in my calendar. I find it really useful to my way of thinking to have a physical representation of the whole month spread out in front of me when I'm making plans. When my calendar is organized, I don't have to be. I never forget an appointment or a date. I never overextend myself. Time serves me, I don't serve time. More on reddit.com

Here are some common examples of simple machines in everyday life: Lever: A seesaw or a crowbar is a lever that helps lift heavy objects with less effort. Inclined Plane: A ramp used to load items onto a truck is an inclined plane that reduces the effort needed to lift the load. Wheel and Axle: A doorknob or a bicycle wheel is an example of a wheel and axle, which helps in moving objects more easily. Pulley: A flagpole uses a pulley system ... More on askfilo.com

How do you feel about stories with simple systems?
Honestly, I prefer the simple systems half the time. Delve is cool, but I dont need a wall of text to learn someone put 2 points into strength or leveled up their sneak skill by one point. Sometimes it's nice to see a system where the only thing they track is mana density, or cultivation level. They have made tangible growth, but they aren't drowning me in leveluo notifications and ruining the story. Sometimes I do enjoy seeing the numbers go up, though. Just think of it like this. If you're writing a stat block for your story and realize it's a chore to write it down, and keep track of the changes, it's a chore for the readers to read the stat block and track the changes as well. Especially for those of us who do audio books, we cant even skim past it. Hope my thoughts help! I'm sure you'll do great! More on reddit.com

In other words, if you want to stop the behavior, fix the system (tax codes). Such fundamental thinking enables Buffett to stick to the issue at hand - everyone pays their fair share - rather than getting sidetracked with judgments of morality. Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the ability to recognize one’s own and others’ emotions. Some believe EQ is even more important to success in life than cognitive intelligence (IQ).

October 15, 2024 - Decide on a simple note-taking system and stick to it. Content is being produced online at the speed of light. Bloggers and YouTubers are publishing content like crazy. If you don’t take notes of what you’re consuming, you’re relying on your fragile memory to remember stuff – which is not a good long-term strategy. If you’re serious about progressing in life, you need to take notes regularly.

Create a morning routine to start every day. In 45 minutes, I meditate 10 minutes, do core exercise and stretch, 60-70 pushups, and then immediately after a simple breakfast, I make a coffee and write 3 pages into my journal - whatever is in my head. While preparing foods, I clean up as I cook. Quick dishwashing so to make the later process easier after eating. It also keeps the kitchen tidier as you cook. Bullet journaling (there's a separate post about this here). Very important for everything. Walter Isaacson's book about Leonardo da Vinci is an inspiration for how to keep creative in your notebook. Reduce clothing to minimum, basics. I no longer need to spend so much time thinking what to wear. Related to clothing, I rotate 4-5 sneakers across a week to get the maximum use out of these and avoid wearing and tearing down one pair too fast. Someone mentioned grocery lists - essential. Avoid overbuying. But also with that, practice eating everything in the refrigerator to avoid food waste. A recent trick I learned is to ask Chat GPT to give me a stir fry recipe for all the veggies I have left in the refrigerator and do it end of the week. Even though all of these 'systems' may seem to be about optimizing, remember, it's not about optimizing. It's about appreciating and enjoying what works for you.
