Thanks for your response.
The microphone is connected properly, as it is able to turn on.
As I mentioned before, I already have all permissions enabled for microphone access, and I cannot troubleshoot the device or reinstall the drivers because the computer doesn't recognise it, so it doesn't show up in my settings or device manager. The general sound troubleshooting doesn't find any problems. The ports themselves work fine with other devices. The microphone works perfectly with another laptop.
Hi
Welcome to Microsoft community.
If your external microphone is not being recognized by your laptop, there are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get your external microphone working on your MSI Katana GF66 laptop running Windows 11:
- Check Connections:
- Ensure that the microphone is properly connected to your laptop using both the USB power cable and the 3.5mm audio cable.
- Try different USB and audio ports to rule out any issues with specific ports.
- Driver Installation:
- Make sure you have the necessary drivers installed for the external microphone. Sometimes, devices require specific drivers to function properly. You can typically find these drivers on the manufacturer's website.
- Device Manager:
- Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting "Device Manager."
- Look for any entries related to your external microphone. It should appear under "Audio inputs and outputs."
- If you see the microphone listed, make sure it's enabled and up to date. You can right-click on it and choose "Enable" or "Update driver."
- Sound Settings:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings."
- Under the "Input" section, make sure the external microphone is selected as the default recording device.
- Privacy Settings:
- In Windows 11, privacy settings can sometimes affect microphone access. Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone and ensure that apps have permission to use the microphone.
- Troubleshoot Sound Problems:
- Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can help diagnose and fix audio-related issues. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot, and select "Playing Audio" and "Recording Audio" troubleshooters.
- Test on Another PC:
- Since the microphone works on another laptop, try it on a different computer again to confirm that it's not a hardware issue with the microphone.
- Reinstall Drivers:
- If none of the above steps work, you may want to uninstall the drivers for your external microphone in Device Manager and then plug it back in to let Windows reinstall the drivers.
Please let me know if you need any further assistance. Thank you.

Hi everyone. I’m totally clueless as to the technicalities of audio equipment, so apologies if this is a simple problem.
I wanted to buy an external mic to use on my laptop, and decided on this one: Clip on Microphone, Gyvazla 3.5mm... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0727Q5M3G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The microphone arrived with all its connectors and it seemed good. However, I just can’t get the thing to work on my laptop. Whenever I plug it in (with any of the connectors), the speakers on my laptop go totally silent. In addition, my laptop refuses to pick up audio from the microphone, sometimes recording just from the built in mic, and sometimes refusing to record anything at all, as if I haven’t got any activated mic connected at all. Essentially, I’d like to record from my external mic but still hear everything through my laptop’s built in speakers.
For reference, my laptop is a HP Pavilion from about 2015. There’s only one jack on the side, which has a symbol of a headset with microphone. Is the fact that this isn’t two separate connectors for microphone and speakers the issue?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot for your response. I tried all the steps that you had suggested, but the problem still persists: the internal microphone alone doesn't respond. As you have requested, my system details are:
System Manufacturer: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
