I rent a storage unit from extra space. This morning I was unable to access my storage unit at 6 am when gate access opened for the day.

I called corporate customer service because the office was closed and didn't open until 9 am. I talked with someone and they said they would call the manager at my facility.

They told me that I had to wait until the facility office opened. The manager did not bother to come to the facility and try to fix the problem until 9 am. I needed early access to my unit this morning to get stuff I needed for a event I had today.

They called me after 9 am and told me that their internet went down and they fixed the problem.

I asked the customer service if the office was closed for the day if that means that I would not be able to access my unit until the office opened the next day. They told me that in that case I would have to wait until the office opened. This means if there is a problem on Sunday with gate access then nobody would be able to access their units until the next day when the office opens.

I feel like this is crappy customer service. I pay over $200 a month for my storage unit. I want gate access during the hours between 6 am and 10 pm when customers are allowed access.

I’m looking at Manhattan mini storage and it’s minimum 600 a month which is just a few hundred dollars different from my rent, so a little ridiculous. Anyone know of a better storage option for nyc?
