I am also having this exact issue. Am logged in but don’t remember password so don’t want to log out if I can’t get back in. Most of my comms are on messenger. So painful. More on reddit.com

hi y'all. i have two facebook accounts, one a regular account for friends and family and second one that is entirely private. i created a decade ago to deal with my teenage angst. i've got no friends on it, every post is locked for my eyes only. i have access to the email it's associated with, i don't recall ever linking it to my cell number since that's what i used for my regular account.
the motherboard of my phone of over five years abruptly died on me, and as such i've had to get a new phone. the problem is i don't know the password to my secret account and facebook won't let me reset it because it doesn't recognize my new device. i never logged onto the secret account on my pc either, so i was essentially locked out for about a month.
i found one of my old phones from when i was teenager, booted it up, and it works! the account recognizes my old phone as a previous device and it does let me reset the password...... provided i enter a six digit code to my mobile number which isn't registered to this account. nothing shows up on my email, and i can't ask for the code to be sent there either. what can i do?

I’m at my wits end. Facebook has me in a loop saying I need to reset only in the accounts center. I when I go there, on mobile and on desktop, and receive the code, enter it, prompted to enter in a new password then a screen stating “something went wrong” pops up. Please help 🫠 I’m at a total loss.

Facebook basically makes it impossible to retrieve your account back. My mother in law was a victim of a hacking and they managed to switch her email and everything. We emailed Facebook, I called numbers, we tried everything to get it back - Facebook sucks at account retrieval.
