I was really depressed for the last 3 years and I haven't had a job that's been more than one month. I have finally gotten though my depression and have been looking for jobs. I put two fake companies in my resume and now my new job wants paystubs or W-2 forms from these fake companies what should I do? I really need this job, I'm broke.

I’m living in a hotel right now because my mom kicked me out for not giving her money and I’m trying to get my own apartment. I can’t use my job because I don’t make enough money to qualify for 3x but I’m responsible, just don’t have no one to co-sign. I don’t want to get another roommate because my last roommate kept quitting their job and I had to pay 100% of the rent by myself for months, making 14/hr might I add, and we ended up getting an eviction. This lady trying to charge me $125 for each paystub and I need 6 so that’s not possible. So I’m just trying to get this apartment, hopefully asap because I only have enough to pay for this hotel for a week before it hits my apartment money. So any tips or something to help me please and thank you.

I’m starting to see more questionable paystubs. We send everything through screening then the screening company requests for leasing office to complete voi. I see some companies being used that are no longer in business with recent pay stubs. How would you handle this situation? We are also reviving more fake cashier’s checks. I have received two in the last four months. I wish my company would report these people who are giving fake checks because it’s a crime.

I’m in an interesting situation, I have ran my own businesses for the past five years so on my resume I am putting that I worked at those companies because nobody wants to hire an entrepreneur. Are most of you asked to verify your previous employment on your résumé by showing W-2 and pay stubs? I was paid mostly through PayPal and the income was not consistent and was lower than the salary I want to ask my new employers for…. So is there a way to avoid submitting paystubs?

How likely is it that HireRight will know I faked a paystub? Also— what’s the process if they do figure it out? Mind you the companies have been bought out and long gone.

So how exactly would they verify a fake paystub which was requested to verify employment because they couldn’t reach the personnel and/or were unable to verify my work there. Wouldn’t verification of paystub need them to call the employer and they’d end up in the same loophole. Could I get away with this?

Trying to get away from an abusive situation and having a hard time finding a new place to live because I don't have pay stubs to show to prospective landlords thanks to my disabilities getting worse over the course of my being abused. I just got ghosted by a landlord who wouldn't give me the application form because I disclosed that I had disability benefits, even though I explained I also have non-deductable grants and scholarships from my schooling that support me. I can afford an apartment no problem, but I fear no landlord is going to give me a new place to live away from my ex without my pretending I'm employed.

When I figured this out, I needed a way to claim that I was working for a completely fabricated job, role, and title – and yet still pass the background check. What I figured out is that you can use company’s usage of staffing companies to pretend to work for any company - and no one can prove you wrong. They would have to do some serious investigative analysis, which checkers just don't care about.

The quick idea here is that if you pretend to have worked for a staffing company, background verifiers will check the staffing company and NOT your employer. So you use that by hijacking the verification to a “staffing company” that you control (or your own), and then you can get yourself verified.

Pretty urgent request. I am homeless and literally sleeping in the woods. The local temp agency said they won't hire unless I can give them a paystub showing I was employed for at least 6 months. Can someone please help me out? I really need this. Thank you so much in advance!!

I've landed a great gig with a company with a lot of growth potential and would really help me get out of a financial hole I'm in. I've worked several side gigs over the last few years and listed only one of them on my resume but listed that I worked it from 2017-2019. I only have paystubs for 2017 and 18 and they want to see one from 2019 but I came to realize I never worked there that year. I figured out a way to tamper with it and change the year on it and very closely resembles the one from 2017. I already told them I wasn't sure if I worked 2019 or not and they're still asking for it. So either I tell the truth and lose out on the job opportunity or I take my chances and send the one that I changed and have half a chance of losing it. What would you do? I learned my lesson to take that off my resume but at the same time I've never worked a job where the background check requires pay stubs from past jobs.

EDIT: Also want to add that this company as well as the third party background check company they used have been unable to verify anything with the side hustle company and have left it up to me to provide this information.

Other than calling the employer, what are some easy ways you verify this?

I have a woman who just applied to rent a house and she immediately mentioned that she was a realtor. She brought this up in reference to noticing that there was a microwave over the oven and questioning if there was a vent fan over the stove. It was a vent fan in the over the range microwave so I thought it was odd she would bring this up.

Anyways, she submits her paystubs and it says she makes 100k per year (the home is 1k per month) and that she has been working there for 4 years. No mention of her being a realtor although, I can see that she did act as buying and listing agent last year and has an active license and is very active on social media. The place she claims she works for is a healthcare company, the website is a template and the number she gave does mot match the number on her direct deposit pay stubs or the number listed on the company site. The company phone number is disconnected and the number on the pay stubs took me to a guy who was a complete jerk. The state registered address of the company is not even a real address.

I didn’t bother to call the number she provided as I assume it’s fake and could be any friend of hers. Instead I ask for further verification by providing her bank statements and she replies “that’s a bit much for a 1k house”. Her credit is in the 500s, she has a felony for passing drugs.

This is fake right? I would not be in the wrong to deny her based on inability to verify income? Usually the paycheck stub lies or frauds feel much more blatant than this so I was a bit surprised.

Have a unit listed on zillow rental marketplace and I’ve gotten several fake looking pay stubs from other applicants, so I’m being more cautious than usual.

This applicant has a 730+ credit score and clean background but the pay stubs look off to me. Can’t find the company online and also the salary info looks odd.

She is moving from out of state, said on the app it was for 1 person but then said it would be herself and 2 children when I asked her directly how many people would be living there. I don’t care that she has kids, it’s a 2/2.5, but I find it odd that the kids weren’t on the application.

I asked for add’l proof of income and am waiting to hear back from her.

So I’m trying to apply for apartments but i don’t have income verification. My dad owns a construction business but pays cash, i was wondering can i go on some website and make myself some paystubs if i input his company information (I’d ask him for permission first). Or if anyone knows if theres another way to get some paystubs for myself or if i can make them on some AI website?

When verifying income, what do you do when you believe a paystub is fake (ie, generated by pay-stubs.com or others)? We have a rule that we deny any application that has been falsified, but proving it’s false is difficult.

I'm trying to get an apartment but I have a problem. I've been working for a family member off and on for the last two years and I finally said enough is enough with waiting to find something else and committed to full time. It pays well enough to move out of my parents house and get my own place but I don't have paystubs for the last 6 months. I started working full time at the beginning of the year so I have only 2 weeks worth of pay that would qualify me for a place. I do have a few checks from the last two years but they are sporadic and not like a full time job amount. What do I do? Do I falsify some pay stubs? Do I print a proof of income with the random checks from the family members company(with their permission)? Do I have my 'boss' send them a email saying I have worked part time and just moved to full time? I don't know what to do and am not ok with waiting 6 months! Also Idk if this is the right sub to ask? Lol
