r/SignalRGB on Reddit: Any suggested ARGB Controllers that'll let me control each fan individually
November 2, 2023 -

As title says, I have 6 MF120 fans and Lian-Li GPU and ATX Strimers which are all split via a splitter cable that goes MoBo - Splitter out 1 - Lian-Li Controller to ATX & GPU Strimers (old controller with 4 buttons, only MB sync no smart control via software)

Splitter out 2 - CM Hub that has all fans in parallel and mirrored.

I want a controller which will let me control all fans and the strimers separately and have effects run from one to another and not mirrored.

It should probably connect to the Mobos USB2.0 header as I only have one ARGB header on it.

I realize i could probably connect the Lian-Li Controller straight to the Mobo argb with no splitter and the new addressable controller to the USB2.0

Are there any budget solutions? as the only ones I found on AliExpress were just parallel hubs and I'm not up-to buying corsair ones and connector converters.

Thanks in advance :)

I ended up grabbing Razer's ARGB controller. Has several channels. I have my top and bottom fans on the same channel, but my three vertical fans all run on their own channels and are not just mirroring other fans. Don't know if it's the best choice, but I have been using it with signal and it works great.

Grabbed this from their discord What is the right choice for your setup? Hubs in general they will NOT allow you to individually address the fans/strips that are connected to it, all effects/colors will just be cloned to all connected devices. they still need a supported controller (supported mainboard or ARGB controller) to work. ARGB Controllers allow you to individually control the lighting of all connected fans/strips in general they are connected via internal USB 2.0 header to your mainboard. (your mainboard does not have to be a supported device in this case!) These generic ARGB Controllers that are using the default 5v 3pin ARGB plugs are supported: Razer Chroma Addressable RGB Controller (6x 5v 3pin ARGB headers) Cooler Master ARGB LED Small Controller (1x 5v 3pin ARGB headers) Cooler Master ARGB Controller (4x 5v 3pin ARGB + 1x 12v 4pin RGB headers) Cooler Master Gen2 ARGB Controller A1 (3x 5v 3pin ARGB headers) Aquacomputer Farbwerk 360 (4x 5v 3pin ARGB headers) Aquacomputer Farbwerk Nano (1x 5v 4pin RGBpx header) (Requires adapter - RGBpx adapter for components with mainboard connection) ZALMAN ZSYNC (8x 5v 3pin ARGB headers) Razer Chroma Light Strip Set (3x 5v 3pin ARGB headers) These DIY ARGB controllers require a bit of work but can be quite versatile: (more info on DIY Products here:<#875824893093105664>) SRGBmods LED Controller v1 (up to 8 devices, 800 leds max) SRGBmods LED Controller v2 (up to 41 devices, 4056 leds max) For all of the above generic and DIY solutions we highly recommend acquiring a NZXT internal USB hub . Please see /wiki controller max leds for the maximum supported LEDs for aRGB controllers.

ARGB Controller
Most ARGB hubs are designed more as an extension for multiple ARGB devices, and would still require an ARGB header to control the lighting through software. What you want is a hub that has independent lighting control because of the lack of headers on your motherboard. Something like this will work: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Controller-3-Pin-Ports/dp/B07Z7WLWD5/ I have used this myself when an ARGB header on my motherboard broke. The hub is powered by a SATA connection from the power supply. It has options for motherboard header control, but the buttons on the controller itself allow for cycling between different lighting effects independently. You can still connect the controller to the motherboard using an internal USB 2.0 header if you have one spare, this will allow for firmware updates and also should allow for some limited control of the fans lighting modes through Cooler Master's own lighting software, but that can just depend on whether the devices are easily recognized. However, this isn't a fan power hub*.* So you would still need to plug the power cables for the fans into the motherboard, ideally getting fans with daisy chainable power connectors for the limited system fan headers on your motherboard. I have 2 ARGB fans, and 2 none RGB fans. All PWM. Also, currently have the stock wraith cooler with a RGB fan installed, will likely be swapping to the listed Artic cooler with 2 none RGB fans. What is the proper controller to sync all of these with this itx mo bo? More on pcpartpicker.com

Is it possible to connect ARGB fans to a non - ARGB motherboard?
Yes, you use an ARGB controller, like the ones sold by Phanteks, CoolerMaster and Razer. These then link to your motherboard by a USB2 header. Just make sure the connector is the same for the controller and device - there can be different connectors with ARGB devices. More on reddit.com

I use a WLED DIY controller made with a Wemos D1. Most fans use 5v WS28xx LEDS which are pretty much the standard for any individual addressable leds. This will give you advanced control over your leds through a web interface. WLED is also supported by both LedFX V2 (audio driven led control software) and Home Assistant (Smart Home). My motherboard (Gigabyte H610M) doesn't have an rgb header and I wanted to get some argb fans for my pc. I have researched and seen that you need a controller but I have been looking online and the controller/hub term mix up confuses me. Can anyone help me find an ARGB controller that I can actually use to have rgb fans. Thanks in advanced

Also would help if they were UK links, thanks

Your ARGB fans will have two cables, one for ARGB and one for power/fan speed. Your motherboard has 1 ARGB header, so you will need an ARGB splitter or hub to connect both to this header in order to control the RGB lighting. Your motherboard has 3 fan headers for fan speed control.
