I'm looking for a BIFL daybed that can be converted into a king sized bed by pulling out the trundle portion or the trundle can be used as a seperate twin. Storage drawers would be an awesome bonus but not necessary.
IKEA seems to be the only place that even really does day beds but I know their beds can be iffy. Bed would be for family kids to sleep on, or an adult guest bed if needed which is why I like the two twin/king bed idea but mostly will be used as a sofa/reading spot in my office. Also considering a futon but that would only be one bed and also not bifl.
Failing bifl standards, has anyone made one and have suggestions for where I could get plans to build my own?

Late post, but im doing it for the archives and google searchers. I have looked at every corner of the internet and spent 2 weeks nonstop looking at daybeds for my guest room. Birch Lane (higher end brand of Wayfair) is the ONLY strong solid wood day bed I found w trundle (unless you spend $$$$ w an Amish store). The SKU is CDCH1056. It's weight capacity is something like 700 lbs for the bed and 300 lbs for the trundle. Pricey at around $8-900 but again, it's the only bed you can find online boasting that weight capacity. Everything else is flimsy fake wood. I also liked that the bed can take 10" thick mattresses while the other flimsy daybeds only took 8". Good luck

For what it’s worth, I have the IKEA hemnes day bed and it feels very sturdy. Unless the people planning to sleep on it weigh more than (let’s say) 200 lbs, then I feel like it will last for a long time. I’m sure it’s rated for more weight, but it might not last as long if someone built like a linebacker is sleeping on it every night. I hope that makes sense.

I'm trying to find a daybed that has a pop up trundle where an 8" mattress can fit on the trundle. The only ones I have been able to find are metal beds, which I'm not a fan of. I have a modern apartment and am looking for something that goes with that style. I don't think a 6" mattress will be comfortable but so few seem to fit an 8" one. Any suggestions?

There aren’t going to be many options for what you’re looking for. Instead you could get one with a thinner mattress and get a mattress topper to throw on top when you actually use it.

Did you ever find anything? I'm in exact same boat. I already have 2 8" mattresses so I'd rather not buy new ones.

I really need more sleeping space and was thinking of a daybed with a trundle for the small bedroom. How useful are they, really? My youngest grand niece is only five but growing of course, and she would be the one most likely to be sleeping in the trundle. Are they comfortable or are they just a pain in the neck?
