I was just wondering if anyone has received an interview invite for the honors internship yet. Or if it is too early to hear anything back

I am currently a freshmen in college, but I am also a veteran. And I am curious if anyone has done the internship program. Some questions I have What do you do during your time? Was it worth it? Do I go to DC or can I go to a more local office? Does it matter what degree I am pursuing? I have noticed the 2024 applications are closed so does anyone know when the 2025 applications open? What are some tips for applying?

For a bit of background information, I am currently a freshman in college with plans to major in either CS or engineering. I am fairly new to CS, and I am in intro to computer science right now.

Recently, I was accepted to the FBI Honors Internship for the summer of 2020. It's an absolute honor to be accepted, but I don't know very much about the role and what type of work I would be doing. I also have about three days to accept the offer. Additionally, I was recently informed that I was selected for the final round interviews for the Microsoft Explore program. As someone who does not have a lot of experience in CS, and I might be interested in SWE/PM roles, this seems like an awesome opportunity!

Right now, I am very torn about what to do. I think the Microsoft internship is more aligned with my current interests, but the FBI internship is something I applied to on a whim and never expected to get and seems so cool!

Does anyone have an opinion on if I should accept the FBI internship, or hold out and see if the Microsoft one works out? It doesn't feel ethical to accept the FBI and then decline them if Microsoft works out, but maybe it would be okay? The offer for FBI is actually conditional on my background check being clean (which it should be.)

edit: thank you everyone for your awesome advice-- I will accept the FBI Internship for now because I do think it is a cool opportunity and I'm not sure what I want to do with my life yet. If any other opportunities come up along the way I will be sure to take into account all this awesome advice!

Hey everyone I’m currently a second semester freshman at my local community college (I couldn’t afford to start out a university but I’m planning to transfer after 2 years) majoring in criminal justice. I’ve had my eye on the FBI honors internship ever since I’ve heard about it. I was wondering if anyone could speak on their experience in the program. I know the application process is long and extensive. Was it worth it? Did you stay in the bureau after? What kind of experience was it? Etc. this might not be the right subreddit for this this but idk where else I could post it- if you know of anything else like volunteer work, summer programs for college students to help get experience in criminology (that is what I’m mainly interested in) Here is a rough guide for my next years if that helps Summer 2025 (summer between freshman and sophomore year of college)- hopefully attend a summer program for college students Summer 2026 (between sophomore and junior year) get an internship at a local PD Transfer to university junior year and get a BS in criminal justice and a minor in forensic science Summer 2027( between junior and senior year)- get the FBI honors internship Then I plan to go to graduate school and possibly get a doctorate

Found out today my FBI Jobs account broke or something because I haven’t been getting emails. Only found out because one goated HR lady went out of her way to get my phone # from my resume and call me about why I haven’t been responding to their interview emails. I’m guessing the other 2 locations I selected have been emailing me as well that went into the void

Hello, I am a freshman in college pursuing a Criminal Justice degree and I want to work for the government after I am done. FBI, CIA, DOD.. My concentration is in Homeland Security and Counterterrorism. Also I am learning foreign languages. (Japanese and Arabic) I am researching internships now early. I wanted to ask if you are in the field what did you do for your internships and did it help to get you to where you are? I will add I’m also double majoring in Political Science.

I just received an email that I got an interview for the 2026 fbi honors internship. Pretty nervous for the interview, does anyone have advice on how I could properly prepare? Also those who have done the internship what was your experience like if you are able to share? Thanks!

Has anyone done an internship with the FBI? I know they love STEM students & it's been a dream for a long time to work there but I wonder what the experience is like & how it compares to other internships more directly in the field.

I am a distinguished graduate student at a top university for International Affairs. It has been my dream to work for the FBI. I am finally ready to submit my application for this years opportunity, but I read something that may disqualify me. According to the FBI Honors internship requirements website:https://fbijobs.gov/eligibility#fbieligibility

Of the requirements, these are critical:

Have not used any illegal drug within last ten (10) years preceding the date of the application for employment. Additionally, candidates cannot have sold, distributed, manufactured, or transported any illegal drug or controlled substance without legal authorization.

During my first year of undergrad, before I hadn't realized I wanted to do anything with the government, on one occasion I sent (5) 10mg tablets of (prescribed) Adderall to a friend in the mail for free.(2 years, 6 months ago)

On a few other occasions, maybe 3 total, a friend of mine needed Adderall before his script was up, so I gave him some of mine and he gave me some of his later. (1 year ago)

And lastly, before I was prescribed Adderall, a few of mine friends would have LAN parties (local area network, computer game parties) where I tried Adderall a few times, this happened maybe 5-7 times total. (3-5 years ago)

I've been off Adderall for about 6 months now. But I am worried this history is enough to disqualify me based off my character/history.

What do you guys think?

not sure if anyone has an answer to this or not-i applied April 22 to the honors internship program i applied at three different VA locations specifically. It says my application is still under review. It’s been well over a month now since the application was due-should i just assume i’m not getting an interview?

I applied at the end of April for the: New York, D.C., and Atlanta offices and I’m getting concerned.

My application still reads, “Under Review”, with the same time stamp as when I submitted it as well as no further text following when I click “Under Review”. I understand the CJO timeline of mid to late July but have seen multiple people getting replies. I do feel I am qualified and have reference from a retired agent, however nothing has come of it so far.

Should I assume I have been rejected, or is there a notice given regardless of the outcome? Would really love some clarification from anyone that has deeper knowledge of this whole process.

Has anyone here gotten an FJO for the 2025 honors internship (starting in 3 weeks)? I have not gotten mine and I’m very worried. I also no longer receive the occasional emails from FBIjobs that we used to get before the freeze.

I called the Pittsburgh Field Office (FO) today, and the HR rep told me that everyone who was selected to move on to the interview there has already been notified. Some other info the rep told me:

• Only your top three FO choices will have information on your application status

• All the FOs are selecting even fewer candidates than normal this year. If you don't hear anything within a month, then it's safe to say that you weren't selected*.

• Many of the FBI employees still haven't gone back to the office full-time, so if you call an FO about the internship and get sent to voicemail, just leave a voicemail. It'll probably take a few days for them to get back. Make sure to clearly leave your full name in the voicemail if you want them to check your status.

*This is just my guess, not the rep's, given how long it takes to go through the entire process. I don't know if people are notified if their application is rejected.

It's really of no use calling the D.C. FO as the person you get transferred to is gone until December 2nd. If you have any questions about the internship, I would call an FO instead of emailing. I've sent mail several times to the email address posted on the internship application, but I've never gotten a response. However, I have gotten a response back when I left a voicemail.

At this point, given that I didn't think I was the most competitive candidate to begin with, I've accepted that I didn't get in. But, there's always next time! TL;DR: Pittsburgh already selected all their applicants. Call your top FOs to know your status.

I'll try to keep this brief:

• I'm in my late 20s, working full-time at fortune 500 in tech & finishing up Masters degree. I decided to do the internship because it would count as the last credit towards my degree.

• Dream is to be SA and figured this was the best way to get my foot in the door with the Bureau.

• I applied to Honors internship in Sep, passed background, received and accepted final offer last week.

• Now I'm here thinking: Is the internship really all that beneficial in the first place? I wanted to complete my masters so I put off applying to SA positions in the past.

• Question(s): if I rescind my Internship acceptance, how badly would I have shot myself in the foot? Should I just ask for a full-time position instead?

Does anybody know anything about the internship since the hiring freeze? A week before the hiring freeze they had called me to ask something for my application. But then the hiring freeze happened and I haven’t heard anything since. I was already in 2 months for background check.
