Looks like you got your answer and that one hurts a little with the massive jump in price. In my experience the safest way is to take the box to a FedEx Office and ship it at the counter. Have them measure and weigh it, confirm the packaging type, and pay in store. You’ll get a receipt showing how it was classified, which is your proof if FedEx ever tries to re-rate it later. Most big surprise charges happen when labels are created online and the box is later audited. Counter verified shipments are far less likely to be reclassified. In fact I’ve never had one reclassified by doing it this way. Hopefully this will be the last time you have to pay an up charge for shipping! More on reddit.com

I shipped Christmas presents to my daughter and son-in-law using a Fedex Extra Large Box and 2 day Express flat rate. Some days later I received Fedex Revenue Services indicating that the package had a rate change from $37.50 to $220.83. No explanation was provided. I called FedEx multiple times to ask why. I never got an answer. So I finally disputed the charge with my credit card company. FedEx responded to them with paperwork indicating that the shipment was regraded to customer packaging. But it wasn’t customer packaging, it was a FedEx Extra Large Box which is clearly shown in the photo that FedEx took when they delivered it.

Has anyone run into this? Is there any recourse? I lost the dispute FWIW.

What is the dims on the fedex website? Type the tracking # in, press detail, scroll down the see the details of the package. They are not increasing like that, that the pricing of regular 2nd day shipment by weight. if you still have the POD photo you can dispute it. Make sure no extra tape pill off surround.

The fedex website says $40 for an extra large “flat rate box”. The fedex website also has a section for estimates and it says $80 for express saver what the hell? There arent any other options $80 is the cheapest, wheres the flat rate here?

If you are rate shopping on the home page, after you put the origin and destination in, select FedEx extra large box, and then put the weight in and click "show rates", right below where you put the weight in, it shows the ship date. Then right below that it clearly "FedEx Retail Rates" and "FedEx One Rate". Click on "FedEx One Rate". Cryptic, I know.
