Shipping with Fedex International Economy is a lot cheaper than EMS (17k yen instead of 29k yen) but looking at Fedex website I noticed something interesting. For packages containing multiple items (5+), they charge a processing fee per item making it probably a really bad shipping method for bulk orders. What do you think? Did anyone use Fedex International Economy before for 5+ items...?
From Fedex website:
8.00 € per additional line from the 6th line. ...A surcharge is charged for shipments that include multiple customs declaration items... The first five items in the customs declaration are already billed at a flat rate. Each additional item is subject to a surcharge.
I'm in the UK and on Tuesday I ordered something from a US company and chose the cheapest possible FedEx International Economy shipping, which had an expected delivery date of the 14th September.
It actually arrived this morning :) So how does that happen?
Obviously I'm delighted, and I'm also intrigued to know how it negotiated the system so quickly when I was expecting it to take 2 weeks. Shipped in the US on the 1st, arrived at my door in the UK on the 3rd, all at International Economy price.
It was a very small, light package - would that be part of the reason?
Is the International Economy option part of FedEx Express or FedEx Ground?
Just ranting:
FedEx has my International Economy Freight package. 500 lb, $1000 to ship.
It shipped from Germany to the USA on Feb 12th with a delivery promise of Feb 19th.
It's been sitting in Memphis since Monday the 17th, and cleared customs on the 20th. Got 5 emails on Thursday saying it will arrive on Friday.
It did not. Now it still sits there. No delivery date, no movement.
I called FedEx, got transferred 7 times since nobody knows what to do with a freight package, and finally told all they can do is open a case on it and they'll supposedly call me at some point, but don't have a lot of faith in that.
Had one customer service agent tell me "Don't worry, this has been resolved. We will call you 1 hour before we deliver this package." Not very useful given I am leaving for a trip in 36 hours. The good news is that there's no signature needed for this delivery apparently, so it can just sit in my driveway for a week I guess?
Is there anything I can do?
Hey everyone, just wanted to check if people have a preference or even any horror stories for either option. Fedex is slightly cheaper so I'm considering switching from DHL.
I just noticed something interesting from my package that is being shipped from CA to VA. When I look up the shipment fact from FedEx tracking it is listed as FedEx 2Day, but when I check my FedEx Delivery Manager email it says FedEx International Economy. I guess they are similar in many ways, but are they regarded as the exact same service internally, or is it just a glitch?
So, today I went to FedEx to ship an envelope from the US to India. I wanted to send it as a Priority mail anyway, but was mildly surprised to see that Priority was cheaper than Economy by 35$! I was wondering if anyone here had a plausible explanation for this cause I am unable to think of one, and that's driving me mad. Thanks!

Hi all,
I'm trying to ship a 42kg dishwasher from the UK to Japan and Fedex Freight came up as the cheapest option - their last minute deals are incredibly cheap. I realise there's more paperwork to be done but am I missing anything? It's a personal effects/use shipment from my UK address to my Japanese one - not direct from the seller. It's factory boxed - does it need to be on a pallet or anything? Lastly - the Fedex system asks for a HS code (for possible import duty I assume) and an invoice - is this necessary for personal items? It seems important yet no purchase is taking place.
I did chat with Fedex online and they said they'd call me back which I'm waiting for now.
Essentially what I'm asking is is this OK for personal use as it seems it's more of a business thing and I don't want to get hit with other charges (other than the expected sales tax) along the way.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: FedEx called me back and took me through the process. No pallet required, an invoice that says 'no sale', marked 'personal effects', HS code useful but not required for personal.
I'm in the UK waiting for a package from Canada sent on International Economy. The scheduled delivery is next week, Thursday 8th April, but it's already arrived in my local depot, 5 miles from my house. It got shipped 3 days ago so it's got here and cleared customs quickly in just 3 days, but do FedEx really hold it back until the scheduled delivery date, or can I expect it to be delivered sooner? It seems crazy that it's in my local depot but they don't want to deliver it for another 6 days because it was sent on an economy service.
I purchased an item from Singapore and agreed with the seller to have it shipped via Fedex International Economy. Initially I requested DHL Express since I had nothing but great experience with them. I've never had a bad experience with Fedex or UPS as far as I can remember and I've purchased hundreds of items over the years. Maybe I just have a heck of a lucky streak?! If something arrived damaged, it was usually the fault of improper packaging.
As you can see the package was picked up Tuesday evening in Singapore and arrived one day earlier than anticipated (scheduled delivery was Tuesday the 25th by 8:00PM). I actually tried picking up the package today at a local Fedex hub since I had the day off work. I called customer service and they told me where the last scan was and I should be able to pick it up no problem. I promptly headed over to SSF and the lady at the counter was very helpful and took about 10 minutes looking for my package. She came back and told me that the driver must have taken it on his route already. She jotted down my number and said she'd give me a call if anything came up.
I went back home and roughly an hour later the Fedex employee at the local hub called back and said the driver would be by my door at 1:30PM. Yipieeeeeee! The Fedex Express driver was on the dot and very friendly. We chatted a bit and he helped me hand carry the package closer to my door. He did mention the Express and Ground merger so that is quite unfortunate but I'm glad to have had such a positive experience after reading through so many negative ones here in this Subreddit. Package arrived in excellent condition as well and it was a 50 lb box.

TL;DR
Package shipped Fedex International Economy, breezed through customs, arrived one day earlier than expected. Seven (7) days from Singapore to Bay Area, California. Package was treated extremely well too and it's a 50 lb package.
Hi, My name is shairaf and i am from Maldives. I bought about 3000usd worth of computer components which is being shipped in 3 packages together. But when i checked them today 1 package shows it is in France fedex location, another in memphis tennessee and last one in transit to someplace from memphis, TN. I was wondering if this is the usual method they do things or if there is something wrong? if anyone who is more experienced with this could clarify it for me.
for context, my international economy package (which states that it takes 5-6 days to deliver) has been stuck in a facility and hasn't moved since. Today is particularly weird because theres three on the way updates. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do?
Hey all! So, recently I purchased a high-end bike frame from Europe. The first one shipped international economy from Slovakia and arrived to me in CA in 4 days. Unfortunately, there was a mix up and that frame needed to be warrantied/replaced.
The seller shipped another frame to me, this time from Portugal. That package has been at "ROISSY CHARLES DE GAULLE CEDEX FR" for seven days now.
Every morning, at about 2am to 3am, there are two scans in the tracking, "At local FedEx facility", followed immediately a few minutes later by "Clearance in progress".
There have been five of these in a row for the last 5 days.
Does this activity indicate an issue at customs? Is this facility just particularly slow? I reached out to the shipper and they told me to kick rocks. Should I reach out to Fedex or just be patient? Has anyone else had this take this long?
Again, I'm just trying to manage expectations here. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!
I had a item ship via International economy to the UK from Eerie OR in the US.
Latest status was
Left FedEx origin facility LOUISVILLE, CO at 6.54pm local time.
I think it needs to get to Indianapolis to leave the us.
As I did not pay for express will it take 2 days to get there before it leaves or will it get there soon but then stay there until flights on Saturday to leave US?
Hi all, I have an international economy package (which I believe is handled by express) that has reached my local facility. It was originally scheduled for Monday, but the delivery date changed to tomorrow (Saturday). The package also has the handling restriction of "weekday delivery." Will I be seeing the package tomorrow or will it be delivered on Monday (delivering to my home)? Also there's snow coming in the northeast so :/. Thanks!

Doubtful you might you might not
I shipped more than a week ago and the tracking just keeps updating as in Sennan-shi for the past week. I'm concerned that my package might get lost. I thought shipping early December would avoid the holiday rush. Just wondering for those with experience if there's anything to be concerned with here? What's your experience or are your packages stuck like mine too?
Not really expecting anything from this, but thought I'd vent a little bit, as it basically seems to be standard procedure at the moment. Fedex removed the option of International Economy when sending from Asia Pacific region to Europe some time ago, forcing people to pay more for International Priority, but at the same time the scheduled delivery dates are seemingly plucked from thin air and delivery guarantees have also been removed. I get that there are certain issues at the moment, but forcing people to pay more for a substandard service almost seems like profiteering from the situation. If the current delivery service offers none of the supposed advantages of International Priority, why is it even advertised and charged as such?
Hi, while weighing my shipping options on the Shopify page of this US-based online store I want to buy from. I have learned that "DHL eCommerce" packages are not always delivered by DHL outside the US. Only DHL Express packages are.
So I want to know if Fedex International Economy and Fedex International Priority packages are delivered by Fedex in Mexico or if they also go through the Mexican regular mail service (Correos de Mexico) like DHL eCommerce packages do.
Cheers!
EDIT: Thank you guys for the responses. I called Fedex and they confirmed it would be them all the way to my door. So I made my purchase and chose Fedex International Priority (It was only a couple bucks more expensive than economy). I’m feeling good.
So yeah, depending on how this goes, Fedex was the only choice out of those provided to me by Shopify that would not fall into the black hole that is “Correos de Mexico”.
Bear in mind this is not relevant for all territories, and that the choices may vary per online shop (there was no DHL Express in my case which would’ve been DHL door to door, but would’ve provably cost twice as much).
Is FedEx International Economy shipping cost calculated on actual weight or volumetric weight (package dimensions)? The price difference is very high, look at pictures please.
