I heard recently that you can use your own box for Fedex One rate? What has been peoples experience with this? There is a chart somewhere out there that showed cubic inches and then what size it corresponded to. What was interesting is it looked like by using your own box you save money, or can use a larger box than the express boxes...
Hopefully this is the right place. I just paid $194.76 to ship a box of these dimensions:
21.75lb 27 x 26 x 16 From CA to NJ Scheduled delivery 4/10
Is this normal pricing for a box or a mistake? It’s been a while since I shipped something this large and maybe FedEx isn’t the best option… just seems wildly expensive.

How much does it cost to ship a FedEx box?
What are the different FedEx box sizes available?
How do I choose the right FedEx box size?
The box is about 27x18x22 and 14 lbs. Checked USPS and it says $99, I was like no thanks. I went to Fed Ex and it said $108. :(
Any advice on what to do? I only charged $30 for shipping. It comes apart, but the top part is about 3 feet wide. I can break it down into 2 boxes if I have to but they would both be about 22x18x18
Ill take the loss if I have to, but I thought it was a loooot cheaper.
I'm shipping a big ol McDonalds drive thru toy
I feel like these Ship Manager options are cursed so I'm asking here and not elsewhere.
I noticed picking "FedEx Box" is sometimes cheaper than keying in the same box dimensions by hand. Why exactly does this happen? I heard somewhere it's an incentive to help improve sorting. Do those boxes get preferential DIM factors or is it caused by rounding?
For my example I'll ship a 1-2LB FedEx® Extra Large Box (X1: Cube-shaped) across the entire US. You probably wouldn't use such a big box for 2LB but it makes it obvious. The dimensions are 11-7/8'' x 10-13/16'' x 11-1/16'' (30.16 cm x 27.46 cm x 28.10 cm).
2Day "FedEx Box": $16.29
2Day Rounding down to 11x10x11 (NOT allowed): $24.20
2Day Rounding up to 12x11x12 (correct way): $26.50
That's a $10 difference to ship exactly the same thing. It's something I check for now because it's occasionally cheaper to use a free FedEx box that's slightly bigger than to grab a box I own that's the right size.
Does FedEx even check if something is their own packaging? What would happen if you shipped a different box with similar dimensions and billed it as a FedEx Box? Or a Pak?
Also, why do Express Saver rates disappear if I select FedEx Box? I can get a rate for it if I use Your Packaging or FedEx Pak. It's like they don't consider Express Saver an express option.
P.S Is there any tangible benefit to checking "This is a residential address" on Express shipments since they don't get weekend delivery anyways? I notice if you miss it the residential surcharge is tacked onto your invoice with no penalty rates.
I posted the listing back in February and I decided to pick FedEx as the carrier. It only asked me for the weight so I put 16lbs. Now it turns out they also need the dimensions of the package. It was optional before but now it's a requirement. I feel like Mercari should have marked the listing as incomplete/error to put dimensions. Just like how they always promote stuff in the app they should have done the same with this. I sold my item and when I was looking where to drop it off I pressed the link with the sale I made. It says on the FedEx website that the limit weight is 55lbs and 48X25X25 so l thought I was in the clear since my box was 25X25X18. Message from Mercari 👇🏻
I understand you were overcharged in shipping for this sale. Let me check on this. Upon review, it seems that the item listed exceeds the dimensional weight limitation for FedEx Ground Economy Labels as packages should not exceed 12''' × 8'''' × 4''''Length × Width X Height) and the shipping weight can't exceed 5lbs.
As the Mercari team member mentions to ship with FedEx there is a limit on both weight and dimensions. Then why did it offer me shipping for 16lbs if there was a limit???? I feel like Mercari should have not enforced this on OLDER listings. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
I sold a sweet little flip -- small TV/VCR combo from Savers for $0.99 to $99. However, even a tiny 14" TV was brutal to package. I wrapped it in bubble wrap and put it in a box to double box, but couldn't find a big enough outer box.
FedEx turned out to be about 30% less than the quoted USPS price of calculated shipping ($60 vs 112), packaged it for $15, and is guaranteeing delivery in 2 days (instead of 2-7 via USPS). Insurance included. I'm ahead $38 on shipping, it's professionally packaged, and the customer is happy that I told him FedEx will be dropping it off earlier than expected.
Knocking on wood that it arrives safely, but so far win/win.
Hi All, I'm moving from CA - TX, and am selling most of my stuff, but have some pots and pans, clothes, etc. I'd like to hang on to. I could fit it all in a big (3x3x3 foot) box weighing 100 pounds or so. Fedex charges $2,500 for this. Is there a better option? I guess I could take it all in checked baggage with a couple of flights. Thanks!
I’m moving from CA to NC in about a month. I’m leaving a small studio apartment and selling most things so I don’t believe I’ll have more than 10-12 boxes ranging from small to medium size. I got a quote for the UBox of approximately $2000 (including loaders). However, I’m not sure if it would just be cheaper to ship everything.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I just want either the standard (48"x40"x38") or the jumbo freight box(48"x40"x38").
Then I want to ship something cheap in an LTL truck (NOT the air) from Florida to Washington State.
I've called 4 different times and each time I've been redirected to 4 different things which ultimately lead to dead ends. My time deadline to ship is fast approaching, and it's starting to stress me out.
2 things I want to know is the $ difference there is between the 2, assuming if I can even ship the jumbo via cheap LTL truck. And the 2nd part is actually getting the box. It seems easy to schedule a pickup, but getting the box seems impossible or confusing to the fedex phone people.
The last time I called they referred me to a place that sells arbitrary freight boxes, but the website says it supposed to be part of the fixed or flat price? I don't want any hidden surprises by using a non-official fedex freight box.
Has any non-business purposes ever found success and if so how or which way? Please help!!
Why does FedEx lie about the weights of packages and charge extra?
My dimensions (24x34x6 cm) were over what FedEx said they were (22x33x5). FedEx claimed the weight was 10 grams more. I have a photo of the package on the scale, showing a weight that was less than what I stated (because this has happened before)
I’ve shipped hundreds of packages this year alone, and FedEx is the only shipper pulling this.
Recently, shipped (5) packages that weighed 49.2 lbs, 49”x22”x6”.
We live in the south and calculate our shipping to Seattle, WA. take the rate, and add $5 for S&H on large items and $2 for smaller items.
Three weeks after (2) of the 49.2 packages shipped FedEx hit us with two up charges, one for $36 and the other for $34. They did not state the reason. We paid for 50 pounds and I’m certain the weight was correct because the small FedEx mail center we use has scales and we always double check at the store.
Anyone else experience this? If so, do you have a positive appeal (or just an appeal) story to share?
Hi Fedexers,
I was using FedEx to ship a desktop computer back to manufacturer.
I created a label, which I was confident below $50 dollars. (Otherwise would have used USPS). The computer said the staff would give me an actual price when shipping.
When I dropped my package (one day earlier than the expected in the printed label), the staff in FedEx said they don’t know how much it would cost. Given they already took my package, I just let FedEx shipped it.
Long story short, my account is showing me $123 for this shipping.
Checking with FedEx through emails without much success. They are saying the shipping “opted with FedEx Express”. I went back to check the current quote. Clearly FedEx ground is less than $50 and FedEx express is $100+. As I said, I am confident I created the label within $50. So I should have created the label with FedEx ground.
This is my first time using FedEx. I did not take screenshots of each steps. :( now FedEx is asking me to provide evidence of the $50 quote, while they cannot provide any evidence that FedEx showed me any price of $100+ during my entire shipping experience.
Anyone had similar experience? Thanks!
Not sure if this is the right sub. If not could someone direct me to the correct sub?
I need a box for shipping a large item on ebay. The dimensions need to be at least 35" x 17" x 5"
Thank you.
We spent 250k through Stamps.com last year with USPS. Most all of our shipments are 10oz to 3lbs. We use a lot of padded flat rate. We are looking at SurePost and SmartPost and Ground.
What are the rates you pros are getting? First-class is $4.xx Padded Flat is $8
Any advice? (I am NOT looking for a paid service. Just Reddit pro advice)
Bonus question: What is your rate for zone 8 residential ground for a 40lb package? :) I want to hear what you fellow Amazon sellers have. This will be cool!!
