r/FedEx on Reddit: PSA: Difference between FedEx Office and FedEx Ship Centers.
January 12, 2018 -

The two major types of official FedEx locations customers can visit are a FedEx Office and FedEx Ship Center. Both are different and provide different services so I will list the differences here to educate customers. Any employees feel free to add to this please.

To find the nearest FedEx Ship Center or FedEx Office please go here: https://www.fedex.com/locate/index.html put your zip code in, click on Filter, and under Additional Services make sure to select Hold at Location and Packing Supplies.

I will start with services both location types provide, then I list the services exclusive to each.

Both:

  • You can pick up a package if you have one being held for you there. You need to provide the tracking number or doortag AND a valid picture ID that has the same name and/or address as the one on the package.

  • Can accept prelabelled Express and Ground packages; a drop off receipt can be provided if you ask for one and wait in line. You can also pay to ship a package by Cash, Card, Check, or FedEx Account Number.

  • Cannot accept Ground hazardous material (HAZ) shipments.

  • Provides free white FedEx boxes or envelopes for Express shipments only.

  • Sells brown boxes of varying sizes as well as bubble wrap and tape. FedEx DOES NOT provide any free tape so please do not ask because the employee will tell you to buy some.

  • Have a weight limit of 150 lbs or less and/or dimensions limit of: Length + 2(Width) + 2(Height) = 168 or less (in inches) for shipping packages. Also one side of the package cannot be more than 119 inches.

FedEx Office:

  • Can have the employees pack your shipment... for a fee.

  • Are able to scan a Mobile Label that a shipper provides to you.

  • Can accept and pack your ATT/DirecTV returns with just bringing in your equipment and account information.

  • Can do printing, emailing, copying, scanning and faxing items from their computers or from your phone.

  • Ground package cut off times are typically later than at a FedEx Ship Center.

  • Are open later and more days (many locations are 24 hours Mon-Sun) than FedEx Ship Centers.

FedEx Ship Center:

  • Can accept Express Dangerous Goods (DG) and Dry Ice shipments provided you already have it packaged up and labelled/processed with all the correct paperwork.

  • Express package cut off times are typically later than at a FedEx Office.

  • Are open Monday-Saturdays with Saturdays closing early. Some locations may not be open on Saturdays.

  • Most locations have a very small customer lobby compared to a FedEx Office and also have way less employees working there at any given time.

I recently applied to the FedEx ground in their Tucson AZ location as a package handler, and on the site it gives the address as one of their FedEx ship centers. Is this where I'll be working ??? Anyone else who's working for or who has worked for FedEx experience something like this before when applying for a job with FedEx Ground?

Can I ship directly to a ship center? I know my local hub/ship center accepts packages that are shipped directly there, but I wasn't sure what the general "rule" was. If so, how do I address it, just put my name above the address?

Only reason I like to do this is because it arrives much earlier than when I ship to a hotel. TIA!

r/FedEx on Reddit: FedEx Ground Shipment - Dropped off at FedEx Authorized ShipCenter, no updates after.. Lost/Stolen??
February 2, 2020 -

Hey guys, hoping I could get some answers. I dropped off a FedEx ground shipment at a authorized FedEx express location after cut off time. Usually I do this all the time and it gets picked up the next day, however this time around I dropped it off, it got scanned, but never got the pickup scan 5 business days later. I'm freaking out because this is a 5 figure valued package with no updates aside from the initial drop off. I've called FedEx twice for a trace, and just had promises about a call back but never got one. I decided to visit the location and speak to the supervisor but all I got was a bunch of "We assure you that the package has left this location the next day" from the supervisor. I was told by the supervisor that they've been seeing alot of ground shipments with no scans until the final delivery, has this issue happened to anyone else?

r/FedEx on Reddit: Any Way to Contact Fed Ex Ship Center?
January 23, 2019 -

I have a package being held at a FedEx ship center. Due to some issues, mainly because of some security camera footage concerning a driver, I have been trying to contact them.

I live chatted FedEx customer service website, and they told me I could call 1-800-463-3339, and they would connect me to the local station, and I could get their email there. But when I called them today, the 800 number said they could not give customers the phone or email information of local stations. Nor would they transfer me.

Is this FedEx's official policy? Is there any way for customers to contact the shipping center where the package is being held?

I sent 7 pieces of luggage from St Paul, MN to Rancho Cucamonga, CA. They were supposed to be arriving on June 5th (the day I arrive) but now they will be arriving a day earlier on 4th. I had sent these luggages pieces to be delivered at Fedex office from where I am supposed to pick them up. My question is since I will be arriving one day later and might even not be able to pick up on that day. For how many days will the Fedex office will hold them ?

I have a return to drop off for a rebate. The instructions state

Do not use a FedEx Drop Box. All packages must be dropped off at a FedEx Ship Center.

Does that mean I specifically need to use a FedEx store? Or any FedEx drop center where my item is scanned (ie the Walgreens up the street that is a certified drop center)?

I understand not using a box. I'm not sure I'd ever use a random drop dox (unless it physically drops inside the store like old library book returns). I will definitely hand my package to an employee or place it on the designated counter (label already affixed)

TIA

reddit.com › r/fedex › one of my biggest issues with how fed ex handles mistakes....
r/FedEx on Reddit: One of my biggest issues with how fed ex handles mistakes....
June 14, 2025 -

Quick background: Had an overnight package coming that I was supposed to get today. For good knows what reason(mis-sorted I guess), it comes to my area in the morning as it should, and then instead of going out for delivery in my area it is instead sent to some other state almost 1000 miles away(where for the last 12+ hours it's shown.

So because this has happened multiple times lately(where they just mis-sort a package and it ends up 10 states over from where it should be on day of delivery), I was checking the tracking and I saw it. Okay, I'll call the fedex number and let them know to get it routed back this way......

But as expected/usual, it's just a cluster****. First the guy is like "oh yes, it will be delivered today". Which of course is ridiculous.....he's just looking at the fact that the system is still showing today as a delivery date.

But here is the thing- it's an overnight delivery I paid for, and yet because this mistake happened there will be no effort(despite my effort) to actually re-rout the package to my area in a timely manner. The right way too approach it, imo, is when they are notified that they screwed up to then notify the station where the package was wrongly sent to and say "hey this guy had an overnight package get set to wrong area; let's just get it back in the system as overnight again".

And yeah I still wouldn't get it today. It would instead come tommorrow likely. But I mean it was 10am.....like if I was shipping anything overnight from that area it was wrongly sent to as a brand new shipment, the scheduled delivery time would be tommorrow morning. So for the life of me I can't understand, when it's *their* mistake, this package can't just be treated as still an overnight package(and just add a day for the day lost by the mistake).

but instead, notifying them that the package has gone to the wrong place is of no utility. It's 12 hrs since I called them to let them no my overnight package is 1000 miles in the wrong direction, and in that time I'm 100% not a damn thing has been done. It's likely going to sit there all weekend. There is *some* chance someone at the local station sees it tommorrow and it starts making it's way back to my area for delivery monday, but more than likely it's going to actually start moving again monday and get delivered tuesday or wednesday.

Look, mistakes happen. We all get that. Although in my last 7 packages, this is the third mistake where the package has just been sent somewhere it shouldn't have been in their system(and 3 different places). But whatever, it's not the mistake that bothers me.

It's after the mistake happens and when the person receiving the shipment calls the only number they give us that bothers me. Fedex has a customer support system that is useless. It doesn't allow the people in the call center(I guess in phillipines?) to notify and coordinate with the people on the ground actuall delivering the packages(ie the local shipping centers, drivers, etc). Like this is something that could have easily been remedied and my overnight package just shows up a day late if there had been any willingness or ability to coordinate this......but there isn't. Ever.

So I guess thats the frustration. I am very understanding of mistakes, but I don't see why a mistake like this has to now delay the package *more* than if I just literally shipped something again overnight from where the package is.

It's like if you have an overnight package and they make a mistake and it goes to the wrong area, the 'overnight' component of your shipping purchase is then totally disregarded and what should be one day lost turns into 3+ days lost.

It's just very frustrating.....fedex is literally running about 70-78% overall on the last 25 overnight packages I've had shipped to me(in terms of getting them on time).

tldr version: When fedex makes a mistake in shipping an overnight package, I don't see why once you notify them of the mistake they can't treat it like an overnight package still(and it gets there a day late instead of 2 days past where a new overnight shipment would arrive lol)

I have a package with a pre-printed label that I need to drop off at a Fedex Ship center. According to maps, there’s one in Mallinckrodt so I was wondering if anyone knows exactly where is it and if you’re able to ship packages from it. Thanks

April 7, 2024 - I once found an employees bag on the road by innman and saw the FedEx badge and returned it there. Seemed ok to me ... Needed to make sure the package went overnight. ... Stuff like this happens all of the time. An elderly person thinks the car is in reverse, but its in drive. Gets stuck on the curb and gives it more gas till they pop the curb and go straight into the glass store front of a business. ... Ageist. Your day will come. ...
