I came into work this morning to see my coworker fussing up a storm about how he has to now do 50 hours of course work in order to satisfy the CEU requirements. When I go on CompTIAs page for renewing certs there's this note for contractors government DOD, civilians that we can no longer use Annual Awareness/Refresher training courses required by the DoD for CEU credits.
I just got my cert in April so, I have time to get the credits and I work for company that does work for the DoD so, I can use work experience. But does anyone know the reason for the recent change. I know CompTIA got bought so, I'm betting that's the reason.
So a week ago I was going to go to school for CompTIA A+ Networking + Security + and would have to wait till next semester. I was talking with my friend and he showed me this website.
https://fedvte.usalearning.gov/
Since using it to study i have passed CompTIA A+. I have ONLY used the videos they provide and have zero work experience in IT. I am no longer going to school I am going to get a small job with my A+ then continue to study the networking + security + to get an even better job.
They offer SEVERAL more courses the best of which is Ethical Hacking Certification.
Most of these certs are just DoD mumbo jumbo like "Cyber Security Awareness" which I dont think has any real use in the a civilian job other then "hey look I have this extra cert"

For those of you that have current government/public sector jobs the link above has free access to many hours of CyberSecurity training. It’s mostly video of live training but is fairly high quality (both the vids and the training itself). Some highlights are CISSP, CCNA, CEH, etc.
If you do not have access to a public sector email address there is still some training available to public users (though limited).
