I upgraded from a Milwaukee sander to an ETS 125 REQ, and then sold that for what I paid and upgraded to an ETS EC 150/5. That tool alone was enough to turn me from a total Festool skeptic to a complete fanboy. Their tools really are second to none, come with a 30 day return period and hold their value like crazy. December 21, 2020Can anyone explain the difference between a $70 random orbital sander and a $500 festool/mirka sander?
As someone who used a cheap $40 sander then the big handle Makita then a Festool ETS EC 125/3 I like to think I have a pretty well informed opinion on this. The biggest things to me are the lack of vibration going into my hand and the amazing dust extraction when hooked up to a shop vac or dust extractor. It also sands faster and leaves a perfect finish without trying, I have to purposely be a dumbass with sanding technique to induce swirl marks at 120 grit. Also good sand paper really matters pick up some 3M xtrac cubitron paper no matter what RO sander you are using. More on reddit.com

My rule with tools is buy the cheapest tool with the features you need and use that until it breaks once that happens then I'm using it enough to buy a really nice one. My DeWalt palm sander is definitely on it's way out so now I'm thinking a nice ROS but don't want to throw my money on a tool that isn't any better.
Any benefits for festool 574993 vs say the Makita BO5041K for half the price? Any other recommendations?

I purchased the Festool Pro 5 LTD when is was offered at 99.00. its a fantastic tool and significantly better than a similarly priced dewalt. Honestly it did exactly what the promotion was indented to do. It introduced me to the real quality that Festool produces, and while I will not buy all Festool tools, there are a few critical tools ( tracksaw, router and domino ) that are in my future purchase plans) I also watch for refurbished units being sold since they carry the Festool warranty and a significantly more reasonable price tag .
