Hi running Ventura on Apple Silicon and using ff works for transcoding lectures.
Original recordings are shot on iphone SE 2gen in H264 1920x1080, audio is PCM 24 bits.
I normally transcode those in H265 FLAC.I would typically get a 8 FPS conversion ratio at best.Trying to play around with the AV1 options in ff works as latest version has following improvements :
- Improved AV1 encoding (much faster by default).
- Now uses by default the SVT AV1 encoder for AV1.
- By default CRF value is set to 50 for AV1 encoding.
- By default GOP size is now set to 10xFPS for AV1 encoding.
So would like to know what best CRF settings would be. Trying default 50 smoothes out the original, but almost gives it a plastic like coating to the speaker. What would be best value ?
Using the SVT encoder yields a whopping average 85 FPS transcoding, whereas the AOM one never takes off...
What would best practice/tweeks be, if i would like to have the ability to read the AV1 file on both desktop (VLC does the job) and mobile device?

SVT-AV1 as of 2023-03-17 ARM64 SOC Checks out. The answer to your question is yes, this is expected behavior. SVT-AV1 currently does not have any ARM64 SIMD code. You'll have to try other encoders like rav1e and aomenc-av1 in other utilities to get specific ARM64 optimizations. Copy pasted since I couldn't be arsed to update it.
