What should I consider when setting a limit price for an options trade?
Setting a limit price helps you control what you pay and manage risk. For most options trades, Fidelity accepts limit orders in increments of 1 cent ($0.01), but these orders might not be displayed in quotes. If you want your order to be displayed in the quote, try using $0.05 or $0.10 increments. · The options for the following symbols (.SPX, .NDX, .RUT, .CBTX, .MBTX) trade in 5-cent increments if the premium is below $3, or 10-cent increments if the premium is above $3. These symbols are not eligible for penny increments for limit orders.

r/Fidelity on Reddit: What are the levels of options trading?
March 2, 2021 -

Which one can I buy calls and sell the contract? Also options trading in general questions:

  1. So if a call is set to expire on 3/5, does it expire 3/5 at 4pm est or when it literally is 3/5 at 12am est?

  2. So if you exercise your call before 3/5, don't you have to wait T+2 until you own that stock? What if the price does down after 3/5?

Example, I put a call for $10 expiring 3/5, on 3/4 it is $15. I exercise my option. Don't I have to wait T+2 before I can sell it? On 3/8 it may go back down to $9.

Question 1 - When do options expire? 11:59 AM Saturday*. Question 2 - Unsettled funds is a tricky business. If you want to do that, a margin account is likely in your future. (You can treat it like cash if you want.) I'm guessing that when you say "SELL" you mean "SELL to CLOSE" as opposed to "SELL to OPEN"? If so, then level 2 is likely what you want. When you apply, you agree that you understand what it enables, what that means, and what the risks are. https://www.fidelity.com/webcontent/ap002390-mlo-content/20.01/help/learn_trading_options.shtml#levels Level 1 Covered call writing of equity options. Level 2* Level 1, plus purchases of calls and puts (equity, index, currency and interest rate index), writing of cash covered puts, and purchases of straddles or combinations (equity, index, currency and interest rate index). Note that customers who are approved to trade option spreads in retirement accounts are considered approved for level 2. Level 3 Levels 1 and 2, plus spreads, covered put writing (selling puts against stock that is held short) and reverse conversions of equity options. Level 4 Levels 1, 2, and 3, plus uncovered (naked) writing of equity options, uncovered writing of straddles or combinations on equities, and convertible hedging. Level 5 Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4, plus uncovered writing of index options, uncovered writing of straddles or combinations on indexes, covered index options, and collars and conversions of index options.

What brokerages allow selling puts (level 4?) Fidelity won’t let me move past level 3 options trading even with a margin account. I’ve been trading options for over 10 years. - Quora
Answer (1 of 7): You are referring to “naked” options. That means you sell a put or call without having a hedge (insurance) in place. The problem with selling naked options is that the risk is theoretically unlimited. Let’s say you sell a put for SPY at the money with an expiration a ...

Thanks for posting on the sub for the first time, u/Anon316911 . It's great to have you with us this weekend. I'll share some information about options trading. Currently, Fidelity offers three different tiers of options trading. Clients are approved for different tiers based on their trading experience, financial situation, and investment objective. When your application is reviewed, you will receive a notification indicating what level you have been approved for. We will approve you for the highest level you are eligible for, up to the level you requested. You can take a look at the different tiers and strategies available for each at the link below. Options Trading FAQs You can view your current options trading tier and apply for a higher tier by following the steps below on Fidelity.com. After logging in, go to the "Accounts & Trade" tab Choose "Account Features" from the menu that appears Under "Brokerage & Trading," select "Manage" next to "Options" After reviewing your account and eligible tier, please let us know if you have additional questions. We'll be around all weekend and happy to jump back in to help. Options trading entails significant risk and is not appropriate for all investors. Certain complex options strategies carry additional risk. Before trading options, please read the Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options. Supporting documentation for any claims, if applicable, will be furnished upon request.

I simply want to be able to BUY and SELL options CALLS and PUTS already listed for sale, and simply make money on the premium gain or lose money and never actually exercise the option. Would Level 1 Options trading allow me to simply Buy/Sell options and then make money on the premium rise and sell it before it actually needs to be exercised? Or would i have to apply for level 2 options or 3 or ??
