Options Contract Fees?
options account approve but can't trade options
HI, u/Blindcow1, I'm happy to help get to the bottom of this with you!
One thing comes to mind for why you're getting this error message- you may have been approved in a different account than you intended. To double-check this information, follow the steps below on Fidelity.com:
-
Click "Accounts & Trade" in the top left corner and select "Account Features" in the dropdown
-
Scroll down to the "Brokerage and Trading" heading and click "Apply"
Here, you will see a list of your account(s) eligible/approved for options. Please make sure you have applied for this feature in the account you intended. If you do not see the account, you'd like to have options on, go ahead and apply on this page.
If you do see your intended account, let's go back to the trade ticket and make sure you're placing the trade in the correct account. If this does end up being the issue, you may try nicknaming your accounts on your Portfolio by clicking the "Customize" link above the left column list. This would help distinguish between them, especially if you have many accounts with us.
Now, if this doesn't end up being the case, we are happy to review the situation with you to see what the hang-up is. When you have some time, let's review together in a more secure environment. Get started by sending us a ModMail below, and we'll follow up with you there.

Options trading entails significant risk and is not appropriate for all investors. Certain complex options strategies carry additional risk. Before trading options, please read the Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options. Supporting documentation for any claims, if applicable, will be furnished upon request.

Fidelity denied my options application. I'm guessing it was for level 1, maybe 2, I don't remember what the levels mean. All I wanted was the ability to buy contracts.
I have tens of thousands invested at Fidelity, I am an investment management professional, and I have a master's degree in finance.
They denied my application, I laughed, and I moved on. Oh well, I can't trade options.

I do a lot of options trades, mostly selling spreads. My volume is ramping up, and I will soon be doing hundreds/thousands a week. This is going to take a huge toll with the options contract fees, which does eat a huge portion of profits. Two questions...
