Is Fiio M11S worth it?
Just got mine last week. Comparing to my IPhone 13 - difference is immense. Soundstage, testing on my designated tracks (The Microphones - The Moon, for example), is wider by a couple times, even on Spotify, not to mention in FLAC. I don’t like dongles, so DAP is my preferred option for music on a go, and M11S does a perfect job for it’s price. More on reddit.com

I have a Fiio M11S...I enjoy it, I'm happy with it, don't have any serious complaints. I have never used the Hiby R4. If I was buying a new DAP right now, however...I don't know... The Hiby R4 is a bit thinner, has Android 12 (compared to the M11S's Android 10), costs considerably less brand new, and seems to check all the boxes for my personal listening needs. The M11S has a bit more power, a larger battery (though it's yet to be seen how the operational battery life compares between the two), and has outputs for 2.5 balanced and 3.5 LO, which I believe the R4 lacks. I don't know enough about CPUs or DAC models to make an informed statement in that regard, though it appears that the R4's CPU is a bit newer and has a quad-DAC setup compared to the M11S's dual-DAC. RAM and storage appears to be same between both models. So, my hunch is that the R4 is a bit more "future proof" in regards to Android software and hardware...so if I was choosing which one to buy today, I'd probably go with the R4...but your needs may be different than mine, and I'd have look into to real-world prices of each before actually pulling the trigger. Not sure if this helps or not, that's just how I would evaluate my decision between the two. EDIT: All other things being equal, I'd also be more likely to go with a new device vs a used one. Which would be the better purchase? There is a $150 price difference between them. The FiiO M11S has 3GB vs 4GB on FiiO M11 Plus ESS. Both have the Snapdragon 660 CPU. Both have Android 10. I am new to the audiophile world so I am looking for advice, thanks!

I made my choice and purchased these today:FiiO M11 Plus ESS for $650 as my portable DAP
Fiio K7 for $200 as my desktop DAC/AMP
From all the reviews I've read, these are great price-to-performance options.I'm hoping the FiiO M11 Plus ESS will last me at least 4 years without the battery failing or the Android OS becoming too old / unusable.
I see that Amazon also offers a 3 year portable electronic protection plan, so I might bite on that as well to hedge against battery failure within 3 years.

Great choice getting the M11 ESS, I have heard a lot of good things and the later Android version will do you well. I have the M15 (Android 7) and FiiO has been great with firmware updates and music player updates. Enjoy.
