There’s some confusing things about this player. For one, it has only a single DAC chip. This is pretty unusual for a DAP of this price range, nearly all others have dual DACs. And the previous M15 had two AKM DACs. Another is that they chose to omit the THX amp, when both the M11 Plus and M17 have it. This isn’t the biggest deal, considering any DAP will likely have a good enough noise floor to quietly drive IEMs. But I still would have liked to see it implemented here when it really elevated the M11 Pro from the standard M11. I know that the Fiio engineers posted a response to this on their YouTube community page, but frankly I wasnt totally convinced with their reasoning. My initial thoughts were positive since it was coming in at a lower price than the M15, and is much more affordable than the M17. But other than having more output power, I can’t seem to understand why anyone would prefer the M15s over the M11 Plus. Especially considering the fact the M11 Plus has been on Amazon for $650 for quite some time now. More on reddit.com

April 24, 2023 - Sure, I couldn’t reach the same level of resolution, found on the FiiO M17, but considering the price, and more importantly the size, that’s not a real flaw in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, sound-wise, if not as impressive as the M17 this new M15S remains a few steps above the M11 Plus, and the M15, thanks to its large power reserve: deep bass, smooth mids, excellent layering, it’s an amazing portable source in and out – a real upgrade from the M11S and M11 Plus, sonically speaking.

Hey everyone. Sorta newer audiophile here. I decided to take the plunge and order the freshly announced M15S. Simply put, it looks like it is a good midrange DAP that is the most flexible in the market with its features and usage, even compared to A&Ks offerings, and it's coming in at a cheaper price than the M15 did! I'll be doing a review on it once it comes in next week.
I know the M15 was a hit, so I wanted to know if anyone has any thoughts about the M15S. Like for example, I wonder how it would compare to the A&K SE180, which uses the same ESS ES9038PRO DAC in its SEM1 module.
There's currently no reviews for it yet either. If anyone has any thoughts or questions they'd want me to answer once I have it, that would be sweet!
