Whilst it still has some core features like the scroll wheel system the X3iii is being pitched by FiiO as a lighter, thinner and much better handling DAP than the previous generations. Design-wise the Mark III is a huge step up from the older shape of the X3ii.

It doesn’t feel like the packaging comes from a relatively small company like Fiio (small compared to the likes of Sony, etc), but rather professional and grown up. One thing I do wish they could settle is their naming convention. It seems that, officially, the latest iteration of the X3 is named the X3 Mark III.

July 25, 2017 - To the question of AptX support on the X3-III apparently according to a user on the Sony A40 thread who contacted Fiio. The answer from customer support is they still don't know! The F1C81 bluetooth chip found in the X3-III is the same as the one in the X1-II which as we know does not support AptX.
