August 16, 2025What is the use for 2 search bars?
I think it is primarily just there as a legacy solution for those who liked to keep searches and the URL itself separate as was the only option a long time ago. Really, the uniform bar solves both issues. I wouldn't be surprised if they removed the separated solution at some point. More on reddit.com

My toolbar search box disappeared, and I can't get it back. I'm ready to church
FireFox. I tried the "Toolbar Customize" feature but there is no search box selection, just a magnifine glass which does nothing. Why is it so difficult to have a feature that has been available for years? Solution?

They removed it and told that you can search from address bar anyway... Well, !@##! you youngster developers who think that now it's nice like chrome. The search box was special tool that ignored protocols and acted as pure text search. Also I used it to insert search term from one page there and used the same search in multiple tabs since new tab did not remove the search word from there. and try to find general.com from search bar. You have to type something idiotic in front of it to search it because without it would go directly to the web page. I feel so crippled now. At least make it that real professionals can turn it on. EDIT: After screwing around little bit I managed it to appear again under "Customize toolbar" and managed to restore it. I had to delete old firefox profile and create a new one. Maybe that helps you a little bit.

You can even set browser.search.openintabto true, then you wouldn't even need to open a new tab, Firefox would do that for you whenever you search on the additional bar.

Hi,
There used to be a search box where you can input search queries into it to take you straight to a search engine of your choice and produce a set of results hwoever about a year or so ago they removed the search bar and instead made it such that you could use the address bar instead. This is very annoying to me since it often gets me to a website that is like the search term but not an actual set of search results, can we get the old search box back? Thanks in advance.
