What was the first MP3 player to be produced by an electronics company? Why did nobody else make one until then? - Quora
Answer (1 of 2): I don’t know who was first, but Sony would have been in there. MP3 was developed by the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany; it was a major development effort with high consumer value; so they licenced its use very tightly.

It even had FM radio and a voice recorder, and it came with a dock (the first ever dock apparently). I'm kind of bummed now that I sold it for $10 in a garage sale... More on forums.macrumors.com

November 8, 2024 -

My first mp3 player was an iRiver H10, and it felt like the pinnacle of technology. It boggled my mind that my music could squash into this tiny thing, smaller than a deck of cards.

P.S. This iRiver had a couple of songs preloaded onto it and I have no idea whatsoever what they were. I can't remember any lyrics, just that I liked the songs. If anyone knows what they were, you'd be my hero FOREVER.
