It just takes a few lines of code to have a fully working face recognition application and we can switch between all three face recognizers with a single line of code change. It's that simple.

Facial Detection with python in just 2 mims [tutorial]
It’s frustrating to see (every time more often) this “object detection in x minutes” posts where apparently someone who probably still has to learn to use Python properly can brag about doing object detection. Basically all these posts have something in common: you are not doing anything but executing the code that someone else did, without any knowledge on how to do it yourself. I guess there is no problem with that, but you’re basically like any other user that downloads an app. Please people, try to do the job of understanding how to do your own code from scratch or at least training your own datasets. Try to learn how things works if you want to brag that you know how to do them. It is completely feasible to understand and learn how to do this stuff. Don’t fake it by taking away the works of other people and sell them as yours. Be a developer. More on reddit.com

Face Recognition is a fascinating idea to work on and OpenCV has made it extremely simple and easy for us to code it. It just takes a few lines of code to have a fully working face recognition application and we can switch between all three face recognizers with a single line of code change. It's that simple. Although EigenFaces, FisherFaces and LBPH face recognizers are good but there are even better ways to perform face recognition like using Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOGs) and Neural Networks.

Performing face recognition with Fisherfaces - Learning OpenCV 4 Computer Vision with Python 3 - Third Edition [Book]
February 20, 2020 - Content preview from Learning OpenCV 4 Computer Vision with Python 3 - Third Edition · What about Fisherfaces? The process does not change much; we simply need to instantiate a different algorithm. With default arguments, the declaration of our model variable would look like this: model = cv2.face.FisherFaceRecognizer_create() cv2.face.FisherFaceRecognizer_create takes the same two optional arguments as cv2.createEigenFaceRecognizer_create: the number of principal components to keep and the confidence threshold.

July 18, 2025 - It just takes a few lines of code to have a fully working face recognition application. We can switch between all three OpenCV face recognizers by changing only a single line of code. It’s that simple. Although EigenFaces, FisherFaces, and LBPH face recognizers are fine, there are even better ways to perform face recognition like using Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOGs) and Neural Networks.

August 12, 2018 - Eigenfaces and Fisherfaces take a somewhat holistic approach to face recognition. You treat your data as a vector somewhere in a high-dimensional image space. We all know high-dimensionality is bad, so a lower-dimensional subspace is identified, where (probably) useful information is preserved.

In 2008 Willow Garage took over support and OpenCV 2.3.1 now comes with a programming interface to C, C++, Python and Android. OpenCV is released under a BSD license so it is used in academic projects and commercial products alike. OpenCV 2.4 now comes with the very new :ocv:class:`FaceRecognizer` class for face recognition, so you can start experimenting with face recognition right away.
