1st, real quick, do you recommend one over another? (I’m only aware of the one I’m using - sandisk ixpand flash drive for iPhone 32GB.)
I.E. MY TYPICAL-USAGE/PROCESS: Plug drive into phone, save/copy recorded (via phone) vids onto drive, unplug drive, literally completely delete those vids from my albums/camera-roll/recently deleted folder (I literally have zero photos/vids in my phone right now)...
MY PROBLEM: iXpand taking up 3.17GB of my iPhone Storage (111MB app size; 3.16GB Docs and Data)...even when drive is unplugged! (ref: settings/general/iPhone Storage/“photos” app taking up nothing)
MY QUESTION/S: Am I using this wrong? If not, what’s the point of using the drive to save storage if it takes up iPhone Storage regardless? (e.g. record long video, running low on iPhone storage, won’t be at home for “a while,” so I save it to flash drive and subsequently delete video from camera roll.)

I am running out of space with 10k plus pictures and was wondering if there is a reliable flash drive that I can plug into my phone and upload everything on ? I searched on Amazon and all the reviews were not convincing in terms of something that is reliable and actually works.
I have no other hard drive I can upload anything on. Please let me know.

A reputable USB or SD card would work, you can use a dongle to insert the card or USB, then plug the dongle into the phone. Drag and drop the files. On a side note though, iCloud storage is really cheap. Google gives 5GB free too, for accounts.
