r/Anticonsumption on Reddit: PELA phone case/ inexpensive alternative
February 23, 2023 -
My plastic phone case is quickly deteriorating (after only been a year) and i’m looking for a sustainable alternative. I know its a small factor in my daily life, but it is important.
PELA is a compostable non-plastic alternative but comes in at 60 dollars per case (opposed to a normal 10 dollar case). Is it worth this price? Does it last wear and tear for over a few years? If it is compostable, is it weatherproof? Has anyone tried and succeeded? (they don’t seem to have reviews on their site… suspicious) Its understandably a huge investment.
If anyone knows inexpensive alternatives that would be great as well. Thank you!

Weren't their claims that they made biodegradable products debunked? https://youtu.be/Rp2V7d69hyM Someone buried one for months and it was unchanged.

I currently have a Pela case that I’ve been using since October. I personally have not had any issues with it, but I don’t really use it in a way that gets a lot of wear and tear. They’re definitely on the thinner side and probably wouldn’t save your phone if you really put it through something rough. They’re also made in Canada, so if you’re in North America they don’t need to ship across the ocean, which I appreciate.
