I went to the Pompano Citi Center location last Wednesday around 3:45-4:00 pm for a address change. Walked up there was a line of about 20 people for walkins had to wait about 20-30 mins before they let me in More on reddit.com

Broward DMV- please help
You probably won’t be able to get an appointment anytime soon at any location because so many people waited until the last minute to get their Driver’s license updated to Real ID before the May 7th deadline. DMV locations already had long wait times and reduced locations before this, so now it’s even worse 😆. More on reddit.com

Driver’s License Appointments
You can't just walk in. I was there last month with my son. I sat outside the DMV waiting and seen countless people turned away as walk ins. This is in Pompano. This location is open on Saturday for walk-in only. The catch: you need to line up at midnight. The line easily will have 1000 people waiting. If you don't get a number from security when you show up, you will not be seen. Pretty much camping out for concert tix. Bring a chair and a friend. If you use the restroom, you lose your place in line. More on reddit.com

DMV Appointment in Palm Beach county as a Broward resident?
Palm Beach will NOT renew your license with a Broward address. Don’t even chance it. I KNOW for sure. More on reddit.com

I’ve been trying (with no luck) to speak to someone over the phone about walking in to one of the broward DMVs. The appointments are all booked at all locations. Any recommendations for which one to try to walk into/what time for a drivers license name change?

Update: looks like the policy of the broward DMVs is that they only allow walk-ins on Monday, some on Saturday (Pompano and Pembroke).

Most counties are only accepting their own residents. Highland county, Indian River County, and Pasco county accept out of county residents but you will need to make appointments for highland county and Indian river county.

I have been attempting to change my last name at the DMV in Broward county for weeks now. There are absolutely no appointments available at any of the locations. I have shown up as early as possible and there’s already lines down the road. This was this morning when someone told me to go on Saturday at the Pembroke Pines location.

Does anyone have any experience with this and or know the best location or the best time or should I just give up have a different last name as my husband and child?

DMV’s suck so bad in both miami-dade & broward, and my appointment for my original license has to be rescheduled because i ended up having a trip pop up that same day. from what i can see online, palm beach and monroe counties Don’t allow non-residents to make appointments. could i just walk in regardless? has anyone had issues? dmv’s are state entities so i don’t even understand how they’re Allowed to do this but has it become an actual issue if you try going to another county’s dmv for a original license appointment?

if i can’t reschedule to an easier location i will have to postpone obtaining my license a whole extra month. which- it is what it is, but it’s definitely not ideal.

i know further north counties don’t have the same “non-residents fuck you” rules because they arent near the overpopulated counties of miami-dade and broward, (and my brother is in brevard for school) but the drive feels just a bit Too much for a dmv appointment.

Here’s an explanation as to why many of you have been having the same delays and unfortunate experiences… Broward County voted to have a tax collector, due to the wording used on the ballot to secure the tax collector there was suppose to be another election to bring clarity, but nothing came to pass after a couple of years. Upon this decision, the state started to take a backseat as they were behind the scenes transitioning. Due to the wording not being so clear cut on the ballot, there was supposed to be another vote, which would “clearly” lay out the specific changes that would occur. None of that happened, so the state continued on with the transition. Which brings us to our current state when it comes to appointments. Adding on to this disruption was the mass immigration that happened in Florida from those immigrating from other countries. For example, the office in Margate, there is a pose of folk whom are Latin and Haitian that have gained some sort of monopoly in setting up as soon as the location closes and selling spots for $250 and up. This had been reported to Dave Kerner (Director of Highway Safety), but he is so gung-ho on living out his dream of being napoleon sized state trooper, he exercises little to no discretion on things of this nature, they also flood the appointment system giving little to no opportunity for individuals to claim a spot. The state only owns a handful of offices and that is also a strategic play, and due to this, it’s at the discretion of the property manager to trespass those same individuals from the property not the state. With everything going on it’s easy to blame one without knowing the full context of what’s truly going on, which I’m here to deliver. So with all that being said, once the tax collector takes over, the state will only recoup their fees for the original amount to renew/replace a license (and other services provided i.e. driving test, exams, reinstatements, etc) $48/$25 but the tax collector will add an additional 10-25 on top of it all as a tax for their services. This transition should be officially completed by 2026, at which time it will no longer be the states problem, but will fall in the hands of the county. Broward will also adopt the system that Broward residents will only be able to renew at these set locations, which I don’t see as too unfair as Palm Beach and Orange County have the same practice, and that is another way to keep the flow low. I see so many posts about how inefficient the examiners are how , and how they’re probably taking unnecessary breaks and being lazy. Just like any job in the general public, employees are entitled to breaks and lunches. Examiners for the state of Florida (which is in statue) get 1 hour lunch and 2 fifteen minute breaks. These same examiners throughout the day are given 7 minutes to process each person approaching their counter, but in S. Florida, their is a lot of immigration that comes into play, those transactions are time consuming and can take longer than 7 minutes, due to all the paperwork that has to be scanned into the system and the checks and balances that occur to ensure their residency is legit, plus all the added information that has to be entered, which can take longer than the standard replacement/renewal and for those waiting. Also, Florida has experienced a boom in residents from other states, which is another service that can take longer than 7 mins , that is above the normal amount of what commonly occurs and has been inundating our state. Those same examiners that were there in the past, have moved on to other careers, due to knowing they have little chances of being picked up by the county and you now have the climate we all are experiencing. The current knowledgeable examiners will be out of a job and the tax collector is going to hire a majority of new staff that will have to learn a system that was already know by those that were apart of the state for years. I’m weary about the tax collector and how this takeover will take place. I have extensive knowledge in the interworking of Florida’s government and this change is unsettling. With all this being said, that’s why it’s important to not only read ballots, but to comprehend what is in front of you. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Broward County Bans Sale of DMV Appointments, Florida to Follow with Statewide Law
June 17, 2025 - As per NBC Miami, this new legislation, Ordinance 2015-20, renders it illegal to "advertise, market or sell" these coveted time slots, which have become a source of frustration for locals facing long waits at the DMV. Despite efforts to clamp down on these practices at the county level, the issue of appointment scalping has persisted, frequently causing Broward and Miami-Dade residents to linger in lines for hours—just when trying to renew a license. In response to this growing concern, Florida Gov.

Selling driver’s license appointments now illegal in Broward, will soon be illegal across state
June 11, 2025 - “Thank you, Commissioner Hazelle Rogers, for sponsoring the county ordinance, the entire Broward County Commission, as well as Florida Legislators and the Governor for establishing these much needed policies,” Ajayi said. “This is a win for our customers. Public services, like driver license issuance, must be delivered to residents with integrity and efficiency. Both the county and state policies will deter opportunists from abusing the system, making sure that more appointments are readily available to those that need them, without unjust hassle or cost.”
