My teen wanted a desk in their tiny room, so we got this one. We love it, but it hasn’t been used too much as a desk. It doesn’t work all that well with the crazy shag rug my teen also wanted, and we haven’t yet attached it to the wall, which it definitely needs. They don't make it :( You can maybe look into fold down desk hacks using the narrow IVAR shelves. Sometimes people hack them using one wide shelf as a fold down table, mounted onto the narrower set (which must be secured to the wall so it won't tip). The table suggested to you already is used in some hacks with IVAR too. IVAR's own fold down table works well. All of this options work, but if you don't want anything resting on the floor, you'd have to cut them in half and wall mount them, but then the weight could be an issue. The reason the desk you posted is so narrow and made of chipboard (if it's the kind sold here) is it's a lot of weight to ask of a wall, especially with the torque of putting it up and down frequently, plus storing heavy desk stuff in it. If it was my project, I'd have a chat with a local carpenter and just ask for a custom job, or help to make it. Best of luck to you! More on reddit.com

December 26, 2022Ivar folding table turned fold away desk and bookcase in the spirit of Billy
So basically I just grabbed only the folding table piece from Ivar. I didn’t use the square structure around it. Just the table itself. I made it a little bit deeper then the original as well. Measured out the dimensions of all the panels and had them saw them to size at the shop. Painted everything white. And then simply screwed everything together. I screwed the planks from the outside side panels nice snug and deep and then used a wood repair kit to hide them and making the panels flat and smooth again (and then covered up with white paint again.) it’s secure, but can’t be disassembled. Also bought a back panel of course. And before screwing that on, made sure to provide some electricity sockets on the inside as well. Also strung up some fabric between the legs for decoration. I use that to hang up pictures or postcards simply by putting two magnets one on each side of the fabric. More on reddit.com

Could you buy a normal ivar shelf and cut the front off before the notch? I had a look quickly on the website and that's what the bottom shelf looks to be. Obviously you'd need the tools to do it, but it's still an idea. You could ask go to the customer service desk and say that you moved and your bottom shelf got cracked or lost, or something, and ask for a replacement. You may have to pay as it's a larger piece, but they might be able to order it for you :) More on reddit.com

I'm thinking of buying this Billy bookcase with a foldable desk but does someone have experiences with this bookcase? I'm worried about the desk breaking and not folding correctly. It would be for arts and crafts.

Had one, super convenient. I used it as my work desk since I am low on space in my apartment. If you don't work a lot from home, this is a great option. I am mostly remote, so had to return this. Reasons - 1) the opening on the table is not wide enough so my chair wont fully go in the opening of the desk and I couldn't update my chair 2) My left hand constantly struck the book shelf edge on the left. But this was also because of narrow opening in the desk. Loved the bookshelf/table though - lot of space, cool functionality, fits beautifully in the room. Almost ideal for small apartments to function both as storage and WFH desk. If the table was a bit bigger and the opening was a bit wider, I would have kept it to be honest!

I'm planning on buying a couple of fold-out desks similar to this one and modifying them to no longer be wall mounted by placing a couple of drawer sets or simple pieces of 2x4 under them.
The problem I'm facing is that these desks are too thin for my purposes, measuring only about 6.5 inches deep when folded up. As such, I'm looking for an Ikea desk or a hack I can do to create a desk that folds out with this leg design while still being large enough to put stuff like a fold-out monitor arm into.
Are there any Ikea equivalents that I can look at and use? I don't have many woodworking tools like a jigsaw or hacksaw, so I'd prefer a premade piece of furniture, although simple hacks like this outdoor table (https://ikeahackers.net/2019/05/folding-outdoor-table-applaro-gateleg.html) are well within my capacity.
