I wouldnt. I'd suggest different support mechanisms that attach far closer to the back edge. A wire here is going to be obnoxiously in the way and reduce the functionality. Something like a heavy duty lid stay or a myriad of other products might be better for you. More on reddit.com

I want to build something almost exactly like this: http://i.imgur.com/gvxZon4.jpg
Seems easy enough. Build the desktop and attach it to the wall with folding brackets. However, I’d like for it to have a ledge along the top like in this image: http://i.imgur.com/ZIsd1cm.jpg
The ledge is so I can mount my computer monitor and laptop using this mount with the grommet attachment: http://i.imgur.com/1Won1lC.jpg
Are there any tutorials/plans of how to achieve this using the same style brackets as the first image? I’d prefer no legs. Sorry in advance for the rookie question. Just beginning to learn my way around woodworking.
Edit: Here's the reason I want to do this- the only place I have room for my desk blocks half of the clearance to for my balcony door:
