14 easy food play ideas for babies, toddlers and children — Feed Eat Speak - Stacey Zimmels
January 9, 2023 - Prepare the pudding the night before by mixing the chia seeds, milk and food colouring together. Leave overnight. Give to baby/toddler with different utensils to explore. This activity is really great right from six months old! Chia pudding is super healthy and super yummy and the texture provides an amazing sensory experience for them. After we played, I put some back in the fridge and we had it with some peanut butter and banana for dessert that day!

Food play
nearly anything could be used... cookies, cakes, tarts or other soft pastries juice or alcoholic drinks, such as champagne or wine ice cream or sorbets berries in general work wonders, especially strawberries, raspberries, blueberries ect sweets, such as gummy bear or similar, as well as chocolate drops if you haven't considered it, you could make it a game - blindfold your partner, using a remote toy, and have your partner lick it, guessing what it is, if guessed wrong, they can bite it, then guess again - if guessed right, they're getting pleasured with the toy (or the other way around, if guessed wrong, the toy is turned off) just have fun and watch out for food allergies EDIT - changed *her to your partner, assumed wrong gender, sorry More on reddit.com

Any tips about sensory food play?
Make a mess! My son autistic with a side of sensory processing disorder and motor skills issues - feeding was a nightmare pretty much as soon as we transitioned to regular food. Oddly enough now though, he won't eat anything the consistency of baby food. There's a book called "Just Take A Bite" that we used and was awesome. There is a lot of great information there that couples well with speech and occupational therapy. We started slowly - playing with the food first and making a mess. Finger painting with pudding and jello and condiments. Building mashed potato castles. Whipped cream "shaving". Having him use mirrors to watch himself eat while others ate was also pretty effective. We kind of made everything a game. We used favorite foods as rewards - gummies, fries, etc - for eating/tasting less preferred foods. It is a slow process, there is no overnight answer. We still fight him on trying new things and he's 11 now (he was 3.5 when we started st and ot) but, he doesn't force himself to throw up now! For us, the biggest difference was when we gave him solid goals - two things from each food group in a day, seven days a week, for a prize. Over the last two years, the deal was if he tried fifteen new things, I'd buy him a Pokemon plushie. That one worked really well. I am not above bribery. If you have any questions, I'm happy to try and answer! More on reddit.com
