r/macbookrepair on Reddit: forgot my password and also no internet
December 23, 2022 -
I found my old 2013 or so macbook which my sister gave to me in july 2021. I used it for a few months but it suddenly had an issue where it would shut off immediately without warning so i just stopped using it because I have a PC anyway. Recently I found it again and booted it up which it did normally, only issue is I dont remember the password I set and also it wont connect to the internet, I think its because the clock is off (its been dead for like 2 years) but I cant fix the clock because I cant log in. But i cant reset my password because no internet, and I cant fix my internet without my password, and on and on. Help please? also command + s does like nothing? idk if im doing it wrong or what. help

If You can boot it up to recovery mode ( command + R at start) then in the terminal you can manually set date and time using command: date DDMMYYhhmm And it should solve your problem. Google it.

Boot with CMD + R. Recovery mode. Utilities, Terminal. "resetpassword" and press twice Enter. (or enter a password you like). Reboot. Otherwise, from Recovery you can reinstall MacOS. And setup as new. WiFi doesn't work? It is strange. That's why I suggest to reinstall. If you have chance, open the laptop and see if there is any damage. The wifi should be close to the hinges, left (with hinges away from you). Also, you can use an USB dongle to get access to wifi. Hopefully with some updates it could work again.
