I’m not super opinionated either way. Having an evening wedding at a Spanish missionary style venue with a buffet. Open Beer/wine/sangria/seltzers with a cash bar.
The reception and ceremony are indoors separated by a rocky uneven pavement. The bathroom has AC but also is separated by pavement halfway between church and venue. It’s maybe a 400 ft walkway in total. That said, if you were to be “traditional” by the rule what wedding attire does this fit? Semi formal or cocktail? Semi formal and cocktail?
I know some guests will not dress up either way. This Is for those guests who will follow the dress code for guidance.
I will put on the invites that people need comfortable shoes, personally I’m not risking a fall I’ll be in 1-2inch sandals in a formal tulle wedding gown.

Can you wear a cocktail dress to a semi-formal event?
Hi!
I am getting married at a hotel in Williamsburg in March and am having a hard time working out my dress code. It’s like nice but I would call it fancy but my bridesmaids and I are all wearing floor length dresses so I feel like it’s somewhere between cocktail and semi formal? I don’t want people to wear like… sneakers or like casual sandals or anything like that.
Here is what I have so far for guests: “Cocktail Attire. Come get fancy with us! Your snazziest suit & tie, formal separates, dressy jumpsuits, cocktail dresses, and floor-length dresses are all welcome. Please no jeans or t-shirts. This isn’t the Oscars, so tuxes are not necessary. Though it is technically spring, I’m New York that can mean anything, so bring something warm to wear as the ceremony may be outside!”
We were also going to have a link to a Pinterest board for people to reference potentially…
I know it’s kind of long so not sure if I should shorten it. I am just a person who liked to give lots of informations.
Let me know what you think! Thank you!
How do these dress codes compare, in your opinion?
