i started to learn english on memrise (british english) but I can't differentiate the pronunciaton of"four" and "for" it seems sooooooo hard

While in isolation these are pronounced the same, you will often find “for” appear in unstressed positions, and “four” appear in stressed positions. This can give rise to differences in pronunciation, where “for” sounds more like “fer” — I’m speaking specifically of American English here. The commenter who mentioned the “4 for 4” deal found a great example... I would say this more like “four fer four”, with the middle syllable unstressed and the outer words stressed.

“Four” used to be a two-syllable word, pronounced approximately fow-er. The second syllable disappeared faster in “forty” on account of being next to “-ty.” It eventually disappeared in “four” too (in most dialects), but late enough that we still have an extra letter in there. More on reddit.com
