My first credit card was given to me by Discover after I graduated high school. $750 limit with a poor 460 credit score. My mom was never good at finances, so I was starting from piss poor scratch in building my credit score. Went to college, was able to get Capital One cc with a $500 limit, and an Amazon Prime Chase cc with $1000 limit. None of those required a deposit from me. I never payed any annual or monthly fees for these 3 either. Held couple jobs during college to pay off my credit cards. Over time Discover and Capital One kept increasing my limit after reporting income. I was able to keep my credit score centered around 640. Hard to increase after that since my student loans doubled every year. 6 years later I still have the same 3 cards: Discover -$7500 limit Capital one -$3600 limit Amazon Chase -$1000 limit No maintenance fees still. Hello! I am a recent graduate who has never owned a credit card and has used a debit card my whole life. Stick to Discover and Capital One. They have good secured cards, but more importantly they have pre-approval applications, so you know which card you are likely to be approved for before going all the way through the application and getting hit with the hard credit pull.
