Just spend last 2 hours trying to get money back from GODADDY. It said my plan was $10.99 then charged an additional $11.99 a MONTH for a new domain name. How do they get away with that?? And the customer service is a complete waste because you cannot understand them at all. My question is how are they allowed to totally lie about pricing and get away with it. They state onEVERY AD that a domain name is INCLUDED in price. NO- that’s a lie.
So here on godaddy's site it says you can make a free website and keep it forever
https://www.godaddy.com/websites/website-builder
A plan for every plan.
Your free, mobile-friendly site comes with built-in marketing and 24/7 support. Keep it free forever, or upgrade to a paid plan for more business-building features.
But twice now I've had to rebuild my website because it started charging me for things and the only way they could refund it was to cancel my whole site. When ask the reps they just tell me I have to purchase a plan to keep my site up. It's like they have all been trained to hard sell but have no idea about the claims their own website makes.
So is it actually possible to have a free website forever or is that just something they are lying about?

Is there a way to get a completely free domain that doesn’t add anything to the webpage when accessed?
I tried No-IP, but when I enable "mask URL," it adds an ugly frame to the end of the webpage, which I don’t want.
So, is there any way to get one? I don’t mind if the URL ends up being random.
I hope to create a website for my poetry. A website that's simple to use and attractive to readers.
The free WordPress domain name ends with 'name.wordpress.com' - does the free Wix domain do the same thing?
Do you suggest GoDaddy for a non-commercial poetry website?
There is a domain that I'd like for my new business but it says it is "parked free" via GoDaddy. I asked them what this means and they said someone owns it but isn't using it.
When I type in the domain it brings me to the "parked free by" GoDaddy logo and prompts me to use their brokerage service.
I've heard through previous posts in this reddit that their backorder/broker services aren't great to use and borderline scammy and can come back at outrageous prices that are unaffordable.
So I went to who.is and there is no information on who owns the domain.
I then when to the ICANN info and found that it is owned by Domaincontrol.com which is owned by WildWestDomains LLC which is GoDaddy's white label reseller alias.
So GoDaddy is the one who owns it?
I'm stuck because it is seemingly available through GoDaddy, but I have no idea how I can go further with obtaining it without following their brokerage service who is going to negotiate with . . . themselves?
I'm a small business owner and I can't be dishing upwards of a few thousand for this domain but it would be ideal to have for my business considering it is the exact name and I wouldn't have to do a strange rendition of it.
Are there any thoughts on how to make a move toward contacting the owner/attempting to obtain it? Or should I ditch the idea of owning this specific domain and move on?
Edited to add: It doesn't expire until 2027 and was bought in 2002.
TIA. I'm new to this.
Back in 2020 obtained a free .ml domain from freenom, and it worked really well. I just went to sue freenom again and found that it, along with dot.tk is now defunct.
Listen, I get that lots of people say that i am being cheap an i should just buy one from cloudflare or name cheap for a few bucks, but i dont want to hear from those people. I simply want to know if there is any currently functioning alternativelys to freenom that will provide you with a completely free domain nme without need for a payment method,
THX,
Milo
Have one domain, DNS and a couple of email accounts (using that one domain) on GD and looking for an alternative to migrate to that would include simple web hosting as well. This is a small home business so expect low traffic and looking at lower cost wise. Tech guy but not all that web savvy so something easier to set up is a big plus.
DNS currently points to Zenfolio photo website but plan is to dump Zenfolio as well, build out a simple two function website (tech consulting + photography) where tech consulting may take one or two pages and then a link/pointer to Adobe Portfolio photo website (comes with Creative Cloud which I already subscribe to). Use Mac Outlook and Android clients so IMAP/POP is fine.
Heard about Bluehost, Dreamhost and a couple of others.
just wondering, since i intend to set up a mastodon instance ran for fun and just for me and my friends, only for about a year, would godaddy be a good choice?
I couldn't find a subreddit about registrars, so I hope this is allowed in r/webhosting
I would like to buy a specific domain, but when I go there I get a page from GoDaddy with the message "This Web page is parked FREE, courtesy of GoDaddy.com".
I can click on "Learn how you can get this domain" but that redirects me to their Domain Buy Service.
Why would I need to buy the domain (for $70, plus commission), if they have it parked? Is there any way around this or should I just pay the money to GoDaddy? And if I buy it from them, will I be able to transfer it to my own registrar?
Edit: so, I went ahead and proceeded on the Domain Buy Service, but then I got the error that the domain is already taken?
<FULL DISCLOSURE> I am a newby when it comes to anything web design related but I am learning. I don't quite understand the concepts of things like a domain name, subdomain, website hosting, etc. But I am still in the infant stage of creating a new business with very limited funds. The fact of the matter is I need a business website with a domain or possibly a subdomain registered. Is there any truly FREE options for this? I am quite sure that the premium version of this same thing comes with many useful features and most will encourage me to go ahead and spend the money to get it but I simply do not have the funds for this. Not today. I fully intend to upgrade to the premium as soon as there is a profit from my business but right now there simply is no room in the very limited budget for this particular thing. Any advice/suggestions on this matter are openly welcomed. If anyone has a little time to chat about it feel free to message me if you prefer. Thanks in advance for your help
Other Domain registrars may do this, but it seems to be the most prevalent with GoDaddy, I'll just get right to it. They buy domains you are searching for and then try to re-sell them back to you as a "Premium Domain" for %1000 more or a lot of times even more, I normally see it go to the base "Premium Domain" of $2,500. They offer domains for $1 as a deal a lot of the times to get you searching for a domain on their website, through this I assume they check for trends and buy high trending word uses and popular phrases. This is such a dirty practice for a company who is there to offer an easy solution to purchase a domain for a lot of times peoples first company, website, and hosting plan.
I've been using Google recently (who also offers anonymous registration as part of the cost, GoDaddy up charges for this)
Godaddy is my domain name provider but when I look at their web hosting pricing it all looks like I have to go thru the web builder.
Is there a way to have Godaddy host my website and I just SFTP my files to the server I'm hosted on?
Hey everyone,
I had a domain with GoDaddy for over 10 years now, and all of a sudden they decided to restrict access to their DNS API...
I was using the API to update the IP address of a record on-demand, but now its not possible and i will most likely transfer my domain to another company..
My question for the community is which company you use to manage your domains? and do they have API access?
Hi all, I've been using Godaddy for years. I have my business website hosted there and I created an email address with that domain name on the end. Now I guess they are ending free email and moving to microsoft 365 with a 2 month trial for which I would need to pay after.
Are there other hosts that would allow me to keep the domain email address and have free or cheaper email? I have my domain email also forwarded to my personal gmail account, so if I can set it up in gmail somehow that would be fine. PS Please talk to me like I'm 5 because I'm a bit of a luddite!
Questions answered:
Budget: Currently paying Godaddy about $20 year? So something around that, or a bit more?
My website is currently built by Clickbooq.
First off, I should have listened to all the horrible opinions about GoDaddy. But I didn't and now I've been fucked by their long, scumbag dick.
I searched to register a domain name, then left it for a week then went back to buy it and it was taken. Taken the afternoon I searched for it actually.
The thing is the name isn't even a real word. The chances that someone would know that specific, made-up word and then have a reason to register that domain... on the same fucking afternoon that I originally look it up are so incredibly small.
That word is a really good business name. No corresponding website name to my small business will hurt. But aside from that, this is a scummy move on GoDaddys part.
So, Fuck you GoDaddy Anyone who reads this, don't ever use GoDaddy for anything in anyway.
Fuck you GoDaddy
Try it again in five days.
How many times will we have to say this? Stop fucking doing any and all business with GoDaddy!!!
As much as I want to fee bad for you, I really don't. Nothing you said is new. There are articles all over the web about how shitty GoDaddy are. I'm exaggerating a little here but there is probably a post every day on a message board somewhere or an article on a blog about GoDaddy doing shady things.
It reminds me a lot of big banks. There are a million articles, stories on the news, radio, TV, everyone and their mother is talking about how shitty Wells Fargo/Bank of America/Chase/Citi are, and yet people never switch to smaller banks until they get caught up in one of their schemes, and then they complain.
