There are options for free domains available as well, such as freenom.com which allow the option for free .tk domains (as well as others too I believe). Great for a playground. PLENTY if guides on Google for installing and setting up personal web server, with SSL and more. Plus it's fun.

Help with free domain and self hosted wordpress in OMV using Nginx Proxy Manager.
Hrm, the document isn't loading...
More on reddit.comThe name itself could be completely gibberish, but I'd like a real "playground" where I can improve my coding skills!
EDIT: I've followed your combination of advice and got a free .tk domain and used 000webhost to host it. Everything should go smoothly, but 000webhost is having some internal issues at the moment. Either way, thank you all!
EDIT 2: With 000webhost down (and seeing bad things about this company), I followed up with Netlify and... my first website is up!
Netlify, GitHub Pages, Heroku, Firebase...

I've been using Webs.com since 2006 to host a simple HTML site—nothing fancy. I pay for a cheap .com domain from NameCheap, which redirects to my free Webs.com site. Unfortunately, the company behind Webs stopped this service a few years back.
What’s the best free hosting option for a basic HTML webpage right now? I’ve seen names like FreeHosting.com, 000webhost.com, GitHub Pages, and WordPress mentioned.
Is it possible to connect one of these free hosting platforms to my paid GoDaddy domain? Ideally, I’d like to avoid a URL like "YOUR-USERNAME.randomfreesite.com." Right now, I’m just paying GoDaddy for the domain redirect. Would I need to pay extra to set this up? Is the process complicated?
I don’t use templates, databases, or dynamic pages—just basic HTML to keep my site updated. It’s a simple site from a technical standpoint. But I haven’t dealt with web hosting in years, and all of this feels overwhelming.
For example, I tried signing up with FreeHosting.com, but it asked me to update my nameservers. What are nameservers? Can I use my GoDaddy domain as my site’s URL? If so, how do I connect it?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated—this is all pretty confusing, and you all seem to have the expertise to help.
