So I have a basic store and I have 1,002 listings currently. I've had my basic store subscription for about 3 months now and been at around 1,000 listings for over 2 months (Didn't want to go over because I didn't want to pay insertion fees). All of my listings are "Buy It Now". Everything I have read suggests that renewed listings count towards my 1,000 free monthly listings... but when I go on the mobile app, eBay shows me today (January 18th) that I still have 957 more free listings available this month (until February 1st). We are more than halfway through January and I've had several hundred of my listings renew since they only last 30 days, and I've even listed around 40ish new listings this month.

Is the eBay app just wrong? Or am I able to add 1,000 new listings every single month with no insertion fee with a basic store? Literally everything I read online about the basic store says renewed listings do subtract from your 1,000 free listings per month, so this is extremely confusing. Before I got the basic store subscription, I always used the mobile app to see how many free listings I had left of the 250 they provided. The number was always accurate back then...

No, not when first starting.

Paying them for the store option is never worth it really.. You might get a slight reduction on fees, but it will eat into your profit every month, and it doesn't improve your visibility to buyers at all from my experience with it. I tried it for a couple months a while back, no appreciable difference other then paying them. If you are listing 250 items or less per month there is no reason to get a store subscription. Also your listing limit, items and value, will be limited as a new seller anyway, you have to build up some cred before you can get larger listing limits. I have been on eBay for 20+ years and my limits are high enough that a store sub isn't worth it, the small, and i mean small, amount that you would save on final value fees, like 0.5% seems to be the average, generally is only enough to cover the cost of the store sub, so you are paying eBay to save the money that you are paying them. Now if you are looking to jump in hog wild, hundreds of listings per month, tens of thousands of dollars worth of sales, then by all means a store sub might be a big difference but for most casual or side hustle sellers its not worth it. You would be better off just listing some stuff, seeing if what you plan to sell moves and makes you money and learn your way before jumping in and paying them for a sub.

It's mainly about the insertion fees. Ebay gives everybody 250 free listings a month. If you aren't going over that, there's not much reason to get a store subscription.

At the end of September I had 325 listings uploaded, I didn’t create any new listings for the month of October and ended the month with 131 free listings still available. Does anyone know the formula for how eBay determines if listings count towards those free credits?

So this comes with the special listings that eBay has every month they pick a new special and give you more free listings. I still don’t know how to see what they are each month but if you use the phone app it’s next to your free ones and on the desk top version it shows you are using them also Edit it’s called select categories

Did you sell anything ? The way it’s SUPPOSED to work is if you have 260 listings. The next month 250 will list free and you’ll be charged an insertion fee for the extra 10

I've been selling for a few months, have 150 items sold and generally feel like I'm doing well as a part time gig to supplement my income. I am wondering if I should make a leap to paying for a store and which tier to go.

Did you find that sales increased when you upgraded to even a basic store? Does it boost in the algo?

I've twice now hit the monthly 250 item posting limit. Part of that could be listing lots and some may be duds.

Any thoughts on the jump?

I have the starter store and love it. I really only did the store because I want to be able to offer sales and promotions. It really does boost my overall sales so to me it’s worth it. I do save a little bit on insertion fees but I don’t save enough for the basic store to make sense.

If you're over your free 250 items regularly, it is cheaper to pay the insertion fees until you get to around 315 listings in your shop. Then the basic store is the way to go. Skip the starter store unless you really want to offer coupons or hold sales events.
