25 DIY Patio Table Plans Free
March 27, 2024 - A friend suggested looking up some DIY patio table plans online, and that made all the difference. It was incredible how many different styles I found, from simple designs to ones that were a bit more challenging. What they all had in common was that they promised a unique addition to my outdoor space.
Simple Outdoor Patio Table
Pretty cheap and easy build using plans from Ana White . Materials were around $85 total, although I had some stain, poly, and screws so I didn't need to buy those. Whole project took me 3 evenings, a very quick and easy build. Next up are the chairs, but I'll add some arm rests to them. More on reddit.com
Advice: Patio Outdoor Furniture - Plans from Ana White
The Ana White plans are fine. You’re not going to be making heritage furniture you’ll hand down to your grandkids but so what, if you like the designs they’ll hold up just fine. I’ve built some of her plans before and two things I’d recommend are to add glue to the joints where it just mentions pocket screws. Glue will add additional strength and there’s no reason not to do it, just use a waterproof glue for exterior like Titebond III. The second, for outdoor furniture I recommend you get the stainless steel pocket screws. They hold up much longer and won’t discolor the wood when moisture gets to it. As for finish on the cedar recommended in the plans, there are multiple options depending upon the look you like. If the piece gets a lot of sun and you want to keep the color of the cedar you’ll need a finish with a UV protector like marine spar varnish (I like Epifanes) or exterior polyurethane like General Finishes Exterior 450. If you want something more natural looking, you could use something like Waterlox or an oil like tung or boiled linseed oil. Regarding your other comment about where to source, I’m on the opposite side of the country and can’t help other than to say anywhere except Home Depot or Lowe’s. More on reddit.com

Super-basic 2x4 outdoor table -- Free hardwood flooring dresses it up
Just 2x4's and 4x4s and some bolts. We got the flooring off of our local Buy Nothing group. Just a social area in our driveway. Everything but the top was painted in black, then verathaned, then hit with some matte spray to kill the gloss and make it feel less gross when you lean your elbows on the edges. More on reddit.com

Simple Outdoor Dining Table | Ana White
May 5, 2020 - If I were to do it again I'd figure out how to do all that with the table upside down, perhaps building a brace of some sort - equally spacing out the top boards is challenging - i used some spacers - but after a few boards the fraction of an inch differences add up - so in the end I made lots of eyeball adjustments - but it all came out great. So... some other things... when I was building this, I had it out on my back patio, with the plans and everything all laid out.

Building another 4 x 4 outdoor dining table | Sawmill Creek Woodworking Community
April 21, 2024 - For the top I'd use Polywood since Teak is outrageous or I'd just buy a 40x78 Polywood table for 800 bucks since even if I pay myself 80 bucks an hour, I don't think I could completely finish a table in 10 hours. Anything else you do isn't going to last and will require constant maintenance given your environmental parameters. I have several Polywood furniture pieces that sit out by my firepit, rain, shine, winter, spring, summer, fall, they look exactly as they did new 6 years ago. Now, if something is under a patio/covered then I'd consider some other choices, but otherwise, not worth my time personally.
