Had someone request that they needed to convert a PDF to text in order to edit something among other things. We do not have any sort of paid adobe accounts or licesne, and normally users just need to view a PDF so just the free adobe reader gets installed.
We do have an old program that is on 3 PC's called PDFill which is mainly used for redacting things in a PDF, but it does have an editor, yet when I was messing around with the export to text function in it, it just created a .txt file with nothing in it when the PDF loaded in had 12 pages of stuff.
So I searched online, and all I could find were online converters, and the only one I really trusted was the official Adobe one which was free.
So just wondering if there is an actual free program to install that anyone knows of, cause if possible I would rather install a program on user's PC's rather than them uploading to adobe (although it does say that whatever is uploaded is immediatly deleted)

Try this search 'pdf tools github'. But also know pdf are xml documents so the tool needs to restructure the text and guess on formatting. That's why it's typically a paid feature because it's hard.
