No catch, you just don’t get access to paid features. Those paid features make it much, much easier to use Power BI in an organizational setting, but if you’re just using it for yourself it’ll be fine.

yes, you can. download PBI desktop. crease some CSV or excel files with a bunch of data, and play with it. Publishing it is something else, but you can practice
